Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Am I foolish to think he might still have another 130-140 wRC+ season left in him??? Yeah, I think so. But a 110 wRC+ and 3 WAR I think is definitely a possibility.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Thank you Lol I'll happily accept 100 with above average defense well thats pretty much the steamer projection, but how many games is Tulo going to miss, and how many nagging injuries will he play through.... will he even play a single game without pain......

And here's where I'm glad we upgraded our utility IF spot
justafan Verified Member Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 If Tulo has a fairly good year, is he still tradeable at the deadline with his current salary? That would be a good scenario.

I don't think it will matter how good his first half is. I doubt anyone will bite. I was amazed that AA managed to move Vernon Wells but I believe he hit around 30 homers and looked to be getting better and the Angels bought it. His contract is 2018 $20m 2019 $20m 2020 $14m 2021 $15m OR ($4m buyout.) So we still owe him $58m guaranteed. He's only 32 so I mean there is still a chance to bounce back from injuries. He has had 6 seasons where he put up better than 5 WAR seasons and 2016 he put up 3.3 WAR which is respectable for $20million. But he seems to have a long swing these days. Perhaps injury the issue there. This is a really good team if Tulo goes back to 5+ WAR Tulo and Travis plays all year and Sanchez rebounds fully and the health is back to normal. Problem is - a lot of IFs.
justafan Verified Member Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Definitely it is a big contract. I'm OK with lower batting stats if his defensive skills return. I think having Joey gone may be a positive impact. Tulo likes to have his own team and didn't like being second fiddle. I think this will be a much better year.

How do you know he doesn't like being second fiddle? Which, btw he still is behind JD
justafan Verified Member Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 I'm saying that because he always was. He has always liked being front and center and he certainly was for the Rockies. JD, while the best player around, doesn't have that same need. IMHO

IMHO I think this takes the prize for strangest idea I've ever seen on this board. 1. Unless you're his wife who heard Tulo's sweet nothings in her ear every night, you don't know what the hell this guy is thinking. 2. Him being #1 player on the team will have absolutely no impact on his ability at the plate or on the field. As a highly paid professional, he should be going 100% when he's not injured no matter the scenario. 3. Todd Helton 4. (mentioned already) Josh Donaldson

JD, while the best player around, doesn't have that same need. IMHO Okay, but on what are you basing your opinion? Articles you've read about Tulo specifically stating he likes being seen as the go to player on his team and if he's not that guy he feels it disrupts his ability to play? If so, please link them. Otherwise it's just pure speculation with no basis in reality Which, btw if theres even a shrednof truth to your statement of opinion, why would he have waived his no trade clause and accepted a trade to Toronto when he did, knowing full well Jose and Edwin and Martin and Donaldson were already here and he wouldn't be seen as the man?
CraigG Verified Member Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 One last season of Donaldson and we're going after Cashner? What a sick joke. How about a Cobb or a Lynn instead FFS.

They're looking for someone to sign a 1 year deal. They dont want to commit to 3+ years to Lynn. Besides, the difference between Cashner and Lynn isnt very big
CraigG Verified Member Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Besides, the difference between Cashner and Lynn isnt very big Cashner's K rate dropped off a cliff last year... this year is our last chance to compete for a WC spot for probably a LONG time... I'd rather not take a flyer on Trashner.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 That WC ship has already sailed. Why? You've been so Debbie-Downer, why would this team not be in contention/conversaton for a WC spot?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 That WC ship has already sailed. It's just easy being negative isn't it. The Twins won a wild card spot with 85 wins and we have no shot. Tulo's going to post an .OPS south of .650, Travis will be gone for the season by May, Grichuk will strike out 200 times, Sanchez will hit the DL at least twice, Smoak will look like the 2016 version. It's over!

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 Why? You've been so Debbie-Downer, why would this team not be in contention/conversaton for a WC spot? We’re a middle of the pack team this year with a chance of above or below .500, depending on injuries and form. We’ve certainly got a chance of making the playoffs, but we’re not one of the favourites. If Sanchez is fit then that’s the equivalent of signing a top of the rotation starter too.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 So you agree with him? Or are you going to continue talking out, two sides of your mouth? I’ve been pretty consistent this offseason, a wildcard is a bonus this year, but IMO we’re in a lot better shape that a lot of people here think. The season lives and dies on some prospects succeeding and the injury status of the starters, JD and the middle infield.

It's over! It's not easy because I want my team to do well. But I'm not going to pretend that I see what some others see on this team. I don't see the talent. Could everything come together and they win 100 games? Sure. Lighting could strike. But I don't think that will happen. Yes. I know they don't need to win 100 games...I think they'll be hard pressed to even play .500
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 I've and many others, have said this all a long... spinning the other side is being safe, no? I think it’s unrealistic to expect to win >85 or <75 games with this roster, so anticipating a middle of the pack team is just being sensible. However, one of the things that makes sport exciting is you don’t know what can happen. So finding out how many things go wrong or right this year is going to be interesting, with the added bonus of determining the future of the franchise for the next 3-5 years (i.e. rebuild or no rebuild).

But this team isn't finalized, that's unfair. What IF s*** goes right? You don't know... Our team is better, then you all expect.
