Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 That's a little extreme. If he is signed to a MiLB contract it would be solid depth. well sure but i do believe the proposition being advanced on here is Lackey as No. 5

We need to sign some pitching, and I don't think we have much to spend. I don't like the idea of committing much beyond this year. Romo might be a nice low cost gamble. IMO that doesn’t make much sense unless you specifically mean overpaying someone. If this season is bad and we end up rebuilding then a OK (or better) pitcher with control is an asset that can be traded. If we don’t rebuild, then at the end of this season both Happ and Estrada’s contracts expire.

I don't want to commit multiple years to the tier below. If we're willing to increase payroll and the discount is there for one of the 4 pitchers that would be great.

FWIW I’m still a supporter of pursuing signing Cobb.

Same, he will want a lengthier deal but just won't get it. I doubt he gets more than 2 years, with maybe an option from the team he eventually signs with.

I doubt Lackey signs a minor league deal at this point in his career. He's 39. If he doesn't get a major league deal he'd probably just hang 'em up.

But I would be okay with him on a minor league deal.

But he would need a pretty high AAV to sign a 2-year. But then again, in the climate right now, who the heck knows.

If we sign a Cobb or Lynn, then we also solidify our bullpen by (presumably) adding Biagini.

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Random person on Brewers Reddit claiming he has an inside source that the Jays and Brewers have had discussions regarding Marcus Stroman Honestly there is absolutely nothing that the Brewers can offer. They already traded away their top prospects and Santana is not enough or close to enough. So even if a convo took place it was likely a non starter

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I wouldn't mind Corbin Burnes and Corey Ray as the headliners. I'd hope for better myself. Really wouldn't want to move Stroman without a true high end prospect coming back.

I may be higher on those guys than a lot of people are. It doesn't really matter anyway, because I can't see that kind of deal being done at this point in the offseason, and with planning on contending this year anyway.

Yeah I agree, can't see a deal of that magnitude happening now. Also leaves us way too light in the rotation. I do like Burnes in particular, but I don't have either of those guys sniffing top 25 range. To deal a quality young starter with some control, I'd really need to be excited about the centerpiece, top 25 type excited.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I'd hope for better myself. Really wouldn't want to move Stroman without a true high end prospect coming back. Hiura, Hader, Pina and Santiago for Stro and Teoscar. Pina gives us one of the best back up catchers in baseball (albeit already 30). Hader gives us a back of the pen guy right now or we see if he can start. Hiura is older than them but on the same arrival date as Vlad and Bichette. Santiago is project for about a 2.0 win season but coming off of 3.3. It's probably a small net loss for us in 2018 with potential to be a huge net win by 2020. It's a little bit like the deal the Pirates did for Cole (which everyone but me hated) and you couldn't do this deal unless you truly felt that there was another deal for a starter around, as we'd still have a stupid back log in the OF/DH/1B.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 quite random, but i can certainly see Jays FO moving Stroman after some of his antics they likely see him as a guy that will publicly demand a trade if the Jays suck, which is quite possible That is public perception of what Stroman, we have no idea internally. When a member of the Cubs F.O. came and spoke to Humber, he talked about the Epstein No D-Bag Rule and said there is probably just 1 in the org that still fit the profile and he'd probably be moved that off-season (this was after the World Series win). Someone straight up asked him if it was Baez. He laughed and said he's probably the most liked guy on the team and one of the top 3 leaders in the clubhouse (Heyward, Ross being the other two). If you search Baez and dbag there are hundreds of hits. The public really seems to dislike emotional players who seem to enjoy themselves.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Brewers fanbase is extremely high on Stroman "Oh my God, if we get Stroman you bet your ass I'm buying season tickets." "Stroman would have me doing cartwheels."
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I think Lackey is a bit of curmudgeon and won't sign with the Blue Jays regardless. I don't think his ERA will be around 4. In the AL, around 5 maybe. I would rather sign Dickey than Lackey. Dickey gives you all of what Lackey gives, plus he's not a dick. Ya but he's a Dickey...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Anyone else getting an Error 502 Bad Gateway message on here. Very tiresome. Is there a fix? I'm also constipated, not sure if related.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/quick-hits-aardsma-coke-market-analysis.html Former MLB righty David Aardsma has announced on his podcast that he’s officially calling it quits as a ballplayer and joining the Blue Jays front office as coordinator of player development. The 36-year-old, a former first-round draft pick, last pitched in the majors in 2015 and spent some time at Triple-A in the following season with the Toronto organization. Over nine years with eight MLB organizations, Aardsma ran a 4.27 ERA over 337 frames. He’ll surely be remembered best for a two-year run with the Mariners in which he closed out 69 games and maintained a 2.90 ERA. MLBTR — which once hosted Aardsma on its own podcast — wishes him the very best in his new pursuit.

Be our top SP option in Buffalo?? Well if we don't sign another starter he'll be competing for the 5th rotation spot in Spring Training. But most likely he'll begin as a starter at AAA. His injuries have ruined his career, so he may end up with a better chance of making the majors as a reliever. But he's still a starter (with an option left) at the moment so it makes more sense having him at Buffalo.
