This is one case where it's pretty comforting to know that he's full of s***. I think this board would riot if Bo where sacrificed in order to lose a financial commitment (that's not even that big).

If it was Tulo's contract he was referencing it could maybe be passed as believable. But not the 2/26 or whatever owed to Morales. His contract is a nuisance but far from an albatross

There are very few (if any) other player/contract scenarios where that would be plausible. Blair is a f***ing moron. We probably tried to get Yelich with Bichette but also stipulated that Miami take Morales too. Somehow he could construe that as us trying to dump Morales because he probably doesn't even know who Yelich is.

 

Yep, this would only ever make sense for a pre-prime player signed to a very team-friendly contract with $100M in surplus value there to be had... ie no one else in MLB.

It also goes against the entire MO of the FO. They've repeatedly shown that they're willing to take on salary in trades in order to have better/more prospects coming in. No way they suddenly do the opposite now. (Well not just for the sake of dumping salary anyway. To get a massively valued young player, sure, as others have said above)

Not sure if anyone really knew this but just read an article and Pujols actually turned a bunch of money down from the Marlins of all people lol. They offered him 275m and with their taxes there would have basically worked out to 300m deal. Pretty crazy.

I feel like Machado's douche factor has been really overblown for years now. Other than the Donaldson incidents, I can't recall him doing anything particularly douchey and those were years ago.
