It'd be a pretty easy way to get some surplus value out of the #5 spot. Everyone here has their panties in a twist over the way he looks out there though.

No, people have their panties in a twist over what happens to the ball once he lets it go.

Seriously though, it's not just him, but the impact of also rostering someone who can catch him. Those little bits add up over the course of a season.

Watching Dickey pitch is cancerous though.

Yeah, this. Objectively I know he wasn't terrible for us but my god I hated watching him so f***ing much.

Well then they are wrong because when he lets the ball go he's better than your average #5 SP.

And I don't really buy the latter. Thole wasn't any worse than the dumpster fire that amounted to our backup Catcher spot last year.

Saying Thole was better than last year's dumpster fire says more about the catching situation last year than Thole.

What happened last year with our backup catchers can't be allowed to happen again, but crappy is crappy. From 2015 to 2016, Thole put up -0.8 WAR in 68 games and had a wRC+ of just over 30. The difference is you can't really replace Thole if you have Dickey, but you can replace the tire fires we went through last year.

Of course you can replace Thole. They aren't Siamese twins. Dickey didn't use Thole last year and was just fine with Flowers and Suzuki. He says he doesn't need a personal Catcher either. I think it's more of a Martin thing than it is a Dickey thing. Martin needs days off anyway so it shouldn't be that big of a deal to acquire someone who can do it.

I fully expect them to circle back to Brett Anderson. He will probably sign for cheap, and his arm will explode within a month or two, so Biagini can start from there.

I know, but there's also an option to display your birthday on your profile, which most don't, as I rarely see birthdays listed on the main page, so you only know them as a mod. I don't know why I'm still going on about this so I'll stop now.

U did bail out of the group. It's on you.

I don't understand the obsession with making Biagini a starter. And I really hope they don't go into next season without adding a capable starter.

I actually don't mind Biagini as a starter, but not as a the #5 to start the season. Let him be one of the depth guys to start with, and then let him replace someone when a need arises.

If the Jays are going to allocate most of their remaining funds to an outfielder, then I guess we are looking at Gomez or CarGo. Can't see them signing Cain, and everyone else available is going to get significantly less. Gomez and CarGo are likely looking at deals at or around $8-10M, unless the market really craps out.

I don't really know what this is about, but sure I'll agree that I am to blame.

The 2018 vision of the blue jays will be the worst team they

have fielded since the begin. They will be lucky enough to

win 50 games this year. And the jays management will

still lair to the the blue jays fans that they are trying to

build a new team.

If this happens won't be a bad thing. They get a 1/1, and have an excellent chance of getting a Kris Bryant Type who they can push to be ready in 2020 (to join Vlad and B)

In 2020 they could very well have an awesome 21 year old core.

Note. I doubt they win 50 games. Math projects about 85 (as far as I know) and they still have 15 million to play with.

85 seems optimistic for an old team that lacks depth everywhere but middle infield

The other advantage of a clearly sub .500 season is the unloading before the deadline will take place. A .500 team would be the worst outcome.

Is anyone going to Winterfest on Saturday? I just got tickets and the wife and I are going to bring our 5 + 7 year olds down. It looks very kid oriented.

I see tickets are sold out, but does anyone know how many tickets they did sell? I'm preparing myself for a zoo of people and long lines.

Expect plenty of mouth breathers and neckbeards. They will be ready to go with pitchforks and bring back AA signs if Atkins/Shapiro don't sign Lorenzo Cain or trade for Christian Yellich by that event.

Wife phoned and only 15,000 tickets sold. Spread over the field and the 100 level - that actually shouldn't be too bad really.

Fangraphs has them at 83, only one spot out of the playoffs.

The projections take into account age and depth...

Or do you think fangraphs forgot to put in aging curves and depth charts?? If so let them know, so they can correct the mistake. They have some really good programmers and if you can point them to the right aging curve and depth chart they can improve their projections.

The offseason isn't over yet. This is the type of team where adding 5 wins has huge value... easier said then done, but if they can get to an 88 projection that would put them right in the wild card, and AL east fight.
