Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 BVW is dumn as f***. Holy Smokes! Bwahahahahaha...
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I don't understand. Cano is a clear downgrade on McNeil while making like a billion dollars per year vs. league min. What in the hell is this dummy doing? Not like I really care, lol Mets. I'm also curious as to what Seattle is doing. I know they said Diaz is off the table, it's just a dumb thing to say when a deal like this comes along but are they rebuilding after being reasonably competitive the past little while or going sideways? Calling a closer untouchable seems to indicate a desire to compete immediately but then they trade their best two pitchers. I don't get it. They're definitely rebuilding if the Paxton trade is any indication. And it makes sense, they're nowhere near Houston, the Yankees, Boston and have a much lower ceiling than Oakland. They were competitive but they weren't an upper tier team in the AL which is very top heavy, they probably hit their ceiling and don't have the prospects to supplement their holes either internally or via trade acquisition.

Then why call players on your roster untouchable? Why the rumors around trading for Wil Myers? Why aren't they aggressively shopping guys like Seager and Segura?

Probably just a negotiating tactic, they might think they have more leverage if they publicly make certain players appear untouchable or whatever. DiPoto is no Jack Z but I'm not convinced he also is necessarily very good regardless lol.

Or maybe even Seattle didn’t think anyone was that dumb to give up all that and take on Canos salary(assuming no money is exchanged)
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Will be hilarious if Cano has a big drop off next season (he's 36) and Diaz has an arm injury. Both these things very possible. It's the LOLMets after all.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Someone named Andy Martino said the deal is only for Bruce/Swarzak, Gerson Bautista and Kelenic Mets reportedly pulled McNeil from the deal. Dunn is still in the deal, though.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Has it been reported how much $$$ is going to NY?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Has it been reported how much $$$ is going to NY? Not that I've yet seen, but you'd have to assume it's a significant amount. That being said, with McNeil now out of the deal, it might've just become less money.

King Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 McNeil is being criminally underrated by basically everyone on the internet
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 So why trade for Cano? Is having two starting 2Bs a new market inefficiency? Latest word is that the Mets are fighting to keep McNeil out of the deal, but I'm assuming the Mariners are trying everything they can to have him included. Jeff McNeil might be better than Robinson Cano right now, not even considering age, experience, or contracts of either player. It's obviously that much more lopsided in favour of McNeil when you account for Cano's massive contract that pays him into his age-40 season. This is all so bizarre. I have no idea what's going on.

I'd put money on McNeil being better right now. His projection seems awfully conservative. At the end of the day, I have no idea why GMBVW wants to keep McNeil if he's trading for Cano but I'm going to assume Seattle will throw a little something in so that the Mets do end up including him. Man, the Mets are run by literal retards.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I cannot believe the Mets are going to make this trade.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 So why trade for Cano? Is having two starting 2Bs a new market inefficiency? Move McNeil to 3B. Or have a rotating infield. McNeil 3B/2B, Cano 2B/1B, Frazier 3B/1B, Peter Alonso 1B. I actually think the Mets lineup could be sneaky good this year with a full year from Conforto, and Nimmo. Now if only Cespedes can stay healthy.

Jeff McNeil is getting a lot of love during these rumours. I can almost feel his DDL value getting higher.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I think NYM can come out ahead depending on how much money SEA sends along with Cano. If you flip Diaz you will get more than Kelenic and Dunn. SEA is already taking $40M of garbage from NYM. If they kick in another $20M that means the Mets are getting Cano for 5/$60M? I bet he outperforms that AAV for the next couple years. Steamer has him at 3 WAR next year. You could even shoot him into the moon on the last year of the deal and just call it 4/$60M and it's not that gross of a contract. He had 3 wins in 80 games last year. Does the board agree you could get more than Kelenic and Dunn for Diaz?

C - Mesoraco/Plawecki/TDA? 1st - Alonso/Cano 2nd - Cano/McNeil SS - Rosario 3rd - McNeil/Frasier LF - Cespedes CF - Nimmo RF - Conforto SP - DeGrom, Thor, Wheeler, Lugo, Matz B - s*** + Diaz They need to get a lot of middle relief and some more depth, but that's probably a good team.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 60 mil heading to the Mets Wow! This flips the whole deal around. The Mariners are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee[censored]ed
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Bruce is a $26M future sunk cost. Swarzak is an $8M future sunk cost. Mets therefore are getting $94M in "money" from the Mariners. Cano is under contract for 5/$120M. Mets essentially are getting Cano for 5/$26M or whatever. Cano can still ball. Diaz is perhaps worth more than the two prospects.
