There's a tarantula named after Johnny Cash. Literally Aphonopelma johnnycashi This one because of the black colouration I prefer that at least to the scientist naming the species after him/herself which is more common.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 What does me and Hoffman have to do with any of this lol They are discussing reactions to the Tulo deal, of which Hoffman was apart.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 Not initially, lies. From the day of the trade. In response to Jaysblue saying he was out buying a Tulo jersey. I'm buying a Souza Jr. in the off-season. We'll see which one is more liked in 2 years. and was a year younger than Tulo is right now. Tulo won't ever be hated here though...cause he's white. Reyes projection the year after the trade...4.4 WAR Tulo Projection the rest of the this season 1.7 WAR...over 500 PA's 3.8. they are almost exactly in the same place.

I wonder how realistic this is for the Jays. They’re willing to go with their young position players who are mostly cheap and Shatkins never spends any money on the bullpen regardless, so seems like whatever money they have to spend would be enough to make a strong offer here. MLBTR projects 6/42. Years are too high but AAV seems reasonable enough. He’d be there for Vlad’s years so if he’s any good it would fit the team’s timeframe. Of course he will go to the Dodgers, but it’s the boring part of the offseason.

I dunno, but perhaps you should write about this more in-depth early next month at some blog somewhere about the Toronto Blue Jays.

The contract isn't significant enough to kill the team if it doesn't work out, and the potential reward far exceeds the risk at that AAV, particularly if it isn't backloaded much. Realistically he earns the paycheck even in a #5 starter, innings eater role. Anything beyond that is pretty much profit for the team.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 I've had this weird feeling for months that Yusei is going to end up in Toronto. Zero logic behind it...just gut feel.

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 When was the last time a a significant NPB pitching import failed? Tanaka, Mikolas, Darvish, Maeda, Ohtani, Hirano, Iwakuma, Uehara etc... were all great deals for the team that signed them. The only recent mistake I can think of was Kaz Makita last year, and he only got a 4M guarantee. I guess Kei Igawa sucked liked 10 years ago? I'd love to see Toronto aggressive on Kikuchi.

Maine Jays Verified Member Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 Dice-K was decent until Japan wrecked his arm in the WBC. Not complaining since he played for Boston.

Yeah Dice-K never lived up to the hype but was a solid starter when fit. The last significant Japanese pitcher to completely fail was Kei Igawa.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 This is a decent read on the recent DFA's by Tampa the past 2 season's of Dickerson and now Cron plus how the 1st baseman's perceived value is changing... https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/c-j-cron-got-dickersoned/
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 (edited) Signing Japanese players is always a win win. They have that winning Samurai mentality. If they do well they help your team and add positive value. If they do horrible, they commit Hari Kari and then you get out of the contract and open up a roster spot. 😆 Edited November 25, 2018 by Carlos Danger
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Is it always this slow league wide at the time of the off-season?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Is it always this slow league wide at the time of the off-season? The past couple of years it feels that way. ANother thing the NBA does better than MLB. Everyone can't wait until the summer with the NBA since there is the draft, free agency, etc. In baseball, every team is trying to outcheap the other, which means FA's linger for months, and front offices now think the same, so even trading seems like it would be a lot harder. Definitely lacking the excitement of years past.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Is it always this slow league wide at the time of the off-season? Guys are going to want to wait for Harper and Machado to sign. After that the big names go it is usually a waterfall after that.
