This STL - CHC game is about the sloppiest game I've seen in a long time. "Only" 4 errors, but there probably could be at least 4 more.

We did that in the first 5 outs the other day

Dan Duquette with some strong statements today...saying the Front Office is way behind the times. Behind in technology, numbers, scouts, staff, and they need to change how they approach the International game. Not sure if that is a shot at himself or ownership but interesting.

Also on MLB radio was Manfred who said some interesting things but the one that I thought was most interesting was when he was asked about so many teams rebuilding in the AL, having potentially 3 or more 100 game winners. He talked about parity being a goal still but mentioned that they baseball has tested poorly to young fans of the NFL and NBA, and one of the things mentioned is that they don't like that the best teams lose so often (he then joked about retesting in Houston). As a sports fan this is insane to me but I wonder if super teams actually help baseball.

I need to spend less time in my car...

I don't find the latter part surprising. I watch almost no NBA, but I'll tune in to a Warriors playoff game. I hope they win another title next year. Casual fans tend to be drawn to a good narrative, and superteams are an easily-digestible narrative.

If the Yankees become a super team again, interest will rise. Maybe not like the late 90's, but the Yankees can bring casuals and get talk shows to talk about baseball.

I think Manfred is right to some degree. Fans (the casual ones he wants to attract) don't care about parity. They care about superstars. They care about teams that are so good that they become must-see. They also like a good story, as the Cubs WS run had a lot of fan interest from what I remember.

I'm not sure how he can fix the game to make it more appealing to a younger, mainstream audience. He has a really tough road ahead. I didn't mind the Facebook stuff, at least that's some attempt, but he needs to stop toying with the on field rules. No rule change or pace of play change is going to attract more viewers.

I didn't even really like baseball until 2004. I tuned into the Yankees - Red Sox series probably because there was a super team, superstars, and the narrative was strong. Watching Boston come back from 3-0 and ultimately win the WS kind of hooked me.

So yeah, I guess dynasty teams matter.

STL could trade Jose Martinez 'at some point'

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak conceded Thursday that the team could look to trade Jose Martinez to an American League club "at some point."

Interim manager Mike Shildt has had Martinez on the bench in both of his lineups so far, as he's preferred to go with the better defensive alignment with Matt Carpenter at first base and Jedd Gyorko at third. Martinez is sporting a nifty .299/.365/.478 batting line with 13 home runs and 56 RBI this season, but his defensive shortcomings make him a better fit as a designated hitter. He'll turn 30 next week but still won't be arbitration-eligible this winter, so there should be plenty of interest. Martinez's fantasy outlook appears cloudy should he remain in St. Louis.

Biggest needs in St. Louis are what, a 3B, 4th OF, and RP help? Hard to see a fit there unless they really like Ryan Tepera.

I can't believe I benched Matt Carpenter because Lester owned him career. I should have just rode the hot streak. FML. 2 homeruns and still in the second inning.

Maybe part of a Donaldson package with Dakota Hudson etc.

Another great part of it is the fact that the pitch was right down the middle.

Well, we now know exactly what an umpire has to do to actually face consequences for sucking... in Mexico.

"It's crazy because we used to go out and chase after girls, but now we'd rather play Fortnite," Bregman said. "We finally have our priorities straight."

I’m sure having to live in Mexico is a punishment in itself.

German couldn't get out of the 4th inning for the Yankees tonight. They are down in the 9th to the Mutts while Boston about to beat the Tigers. I don't think Cashman will get desperate enough to do something stupid, certainly not for Happ, but that AL East lead for the Sox isn't getting smaller. Yankees need a SP.
