Alex Colome and Edwin Diaz just completely shut the door down for the Mariners in the 8th and 9th, 6 strikeouts in a row.

Why are people worrying about Harper, he still walks at an elite clip and crushes baseballs? His Babip is gross... so goes his average, it's simple. He's the same guy!

Well, the fact that the Nats are under performing, he's gonna be the target for the blame. And the vast majority of fans will actually still look at average exclusively as their barometer.

So dumn John, that was my point. Thanks bud.

Weird seeing a lot of these names on there. Feels like just yesterday they were prospects.

According to some... they're dropped by Stokes!

Jeff Mathis struck out Carlos Asuaje in the 16th inning, but Wil Myers has just hit one out off of him to give the Padres a one-run lead.

Lol, the Japanese audio of that Ohtani home run made it sound like a routine fly ball or something. I don't think the pitch or volume of their voices changed at all (no idea what they said).

Any one know what's the worst single season for negative WAR? With buck rolling Chris Davis out every day, does he have a shot at the record? (-2.1 WAR so far)

Jerry Royster with -4.0 for the Braves in the 70s?

Bichette put up a -2.3 with a .298 34HR 133 RBI season 1999

It was Jim Levey's -4.0 fWAR season in 1933.

I think wRC+ was created because of Dante Bichette. Maybe it was just Coors field in general, but it's about the time the baseball world started to realize that not all counting stats are alike - and that counting stats should not be used in a vacuum to define a good hitter and a bad hitter.

He broke the model with that season. Would have been much better if he was a DH, playing for a garbage team as well.

The metrics seem odd though. Defensively in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2001 he was -10 to -12 defensively (and a 0.4 to 1.4 WAR player). in 1999 he was -40 defensively - which lead to the -2.3 WAR season (his bat was pretty consistent for all 5 years).

Article on what catchers think about the 6 mound visits rules. Sounds exactly like the take out slide rule. Initially they all hate it, but now most realize it's not a big deal at all. Mound visits are down 50% this year (yet no catcher said they've been unable to make a mound visit when they really felt it was needed) and game length is down 6 minutes. Seems like a win-win.

I think the real test is yet to come. Post season is where the catcher mound visits got out of hand. Roberto Perez came out to talk to the pitcher 9 straight pitches last year.

Not too big on this stuff, but this is interesting.

His D was a little bit off....

He was MVP material the other big bat years

Teams are not willing to deal prospects like the used to. Even for Machado, the Dodgers are holding back, it will be interesting to see if this changes the trade deadline. Happ is 35, if we aren't getting any decent prospects for him, we might as well see if he wants to reup for a similar deal as last time. I wouldn't do the same for Estrada, but Happ being a left hander with a good tight fastball and solid secondary stuff. You would think he still has a good 2-3 years of being an average starter.

Hate to say it, but the truth is, Sanchez is a big if now. Maybe Stroman too.
