G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 The Orioles hadn't won a single game against an American League team since May 26 until today In June they were swept by the Yankees, Blue Jays, Red Sox and Mariners
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Dioner Navarro Plans To Sign With Long Island Ducks Free-agent catcher Dioner Navarro plans to resume his career as a member of the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Navarro will return to the field toward the end of July, Topkin adds. The 34-year-old Navarro last played in 2016, having taken the past year and a half off to help his wife through “significant health issues,” Topkin writes. In his most recent action, the switch-hitting Navarro batted .207/.265/.322 in 334 plate appearances divided between the Blue Jays and White Sox.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 It'll be interesting to see. I'm not sure Happ will return a high end asset (even though he probably should), and I'd kinda prefer something like Gray to a couple wildcard guys. According to many reporters, Happ may be the best SP traded this month. Most better pitchers will prob stay put after teams listen on the and decide not to bite.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I know it's a different Gray, but what about Happ for Sonny Gray, with us picking up the cost difference? We'd get a pitcher we control for a reasonable price for an extra year (and one that may have that short porch getting into his head), and the Yankees help solidify their rotation for the playoffs this year. We could always look to resign Happ in the offseason. The biggest issue that I see with this scenario is that Sonny Gray sucks huge donkey dicks. Not sure if that trade would be a good idea.

Not sure if that trade would be a good idea. He really doesn't. He's been very good on the road this year (3.4 xFIP), and is a sub 4 xFIP pitcher prior to this year. He just sucks at Yankee Stadium for whatever reason. Add in the fact he's only making 6.5M this year and arbitration next year, and he could be a very real asset.

The home / road split is probably just noise, its based on what 7 games each?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 The home / road split is probably just noise, its based on what 7 games each? If it is noise, then it's the Yankee Stadium part rather than the road split, which is extremely close to his career road xFIP. However, his walk and k rates are dramatically and more importantly consistently worse at Yankee Stadium. Maybe it's the mound, maybe it's in his head. Regardless, I see him as a sub 4 xFIP pitcher, with upside, on a reasonable contract and an extra year of control. That's probably worth at least 15M/60 next year on the FA market, and he'll probably make about 9M unless he has a killer 2nd half.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Sonny Gray who is struggling and only has a year of control left doesn't make sense for a team that needs to add as much talent as possible for 2020 and beyond. Even if Gray is a stud in 2019 it won't help the Jays beat out Boston or New York, and if you're trading him next trade deadline, then you're hoping he pitches well enough to have as much value as Happ does now. Might as well just trade Happ for the young pieces.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Yeah, we need an almost blue chip position player, or a young SP who's had decent numbers in AA or AAA, in my opinion. Lol, you're not going to get that kind of piece for Happ.

The guy Steamer projects as a 4.22 FIP starter going forward who walks too many guys to rack up innings doesn't suck? Half a year of Happ is probably more valuable than a year and a half of Gray.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Half a year of Happ is probably more valuable than a year and a half of Gray. Not if we're out of it this year, or have to buy those innings off the FA market over the winter. Obviously I'd prefer a blue chip prospect, but I don't think we're gonna get that for Happ as a rental. The Rays do when they (probably) sell off Archer at the deadline. Maybe we get one if we package Happ along with a good reliever or two.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Lol, you're not going to get that kind of piece for Happ. The latest is the Jays are asking for a lot. You may see the Yankees, or another team bite. Today's start doesn't help, however.

We will not get a blue chip prospect for Happ. What I want is an almost blue chip prospect, ideally someone who is blocked at the MLB level. Which is why trading with the Yanks for Clint Frazier makes sense. Although we'd maybe have to add a prospect of our own. Maybe one of our one million shortstops.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 This was not the night to take a chance in picking Price in DFS. I was hoping his performance the last 2 months would trump his struggles against the Yankees. Nope. The Yankees are continuing to murder the ball even after he's left.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Judge cashing in on Yankee Stadium specials shouldn't be allowed lol. That was practically a pop fly.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Chapman has his good fastball tonight. Just hit 104. Make that 3 at 104, then a slider at 93.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Looks like MLB.TV brought back split screen but it will only let you go full screen for one of the games. WTF
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Judge is no Pillar. Pillar would have caught that while simultaneously posing for a selfie with the fan.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 How Judge doesn't catch that is beyond me

Maybe he should have worried less about his teammates and more about not giving up 3 run doubles to the opposing pitcher.
