It's got to be expected though. It used to be the route to a front office job. You start your own blog (with some original thought on analyzing the data), get offered a job at fangraphs and then an MLB gig. MLB decided to cut out the middle man and either hire directly from the blogs or directly from graduation. Eventually there was very little in new analysis happening (spin rates are all the rage and fangraphs missed out on adding to their site with them), all good fangraphs.com guys have MLB or MiLB jobs. All creative stat analysis guys are going a new direction (DFS, eSports betting, hockey, soccer, basketball). Fangraphs is forced to go in a new direction or risk going under. Adding political topics is risky but probably smart for sites.

The Royals are interested in signing Luke Heimlich.

 

The Athletic just came out with an article featuring GMDM who hilariously said all the wrong things and Twitter is blowing up. It's just not worth the PR nightmare for a fringe prospect.

I hope a team gives him a shot but it doesn't make sense at this point. Drafting him rounds 6 to 10 and giving him like 5k to create savings would have been the way to go if you're going to deal with the PR mess.

I bet he goes to an independent league and tries to prove himself that way. If he shines he could get a shot. He's just not worth the risk at this point.
