Crazy start to this Giants-Cubs game.

 

3 IF hits deflected off the pitcher... just... what?

 

Wish I didn't have to listen to Vasgersian take swipes at analytics every 5th sentence though, when here he is quoting exit velocity in his commentary.

They were all drilled too, just so strange.

 

And yeah that's been awful to listen to. Vasgersian is usually alright but I think he's highly overrated.

Wow Javy Baez, he may not have any plate discipline whatsoever but that boy's got some mad tools.

 

He is so great to watch play the game.

 

Anyone know if Pruitt's save today is the most innings ever to receive a save?

The last pitcher to throw at least five innings and notch a save in the regular season was Joaquin Benoit, who threw seven innings for the Texas Rangers against the Orioles in a September 2002 game. This was the longest at 7 innings in relief of Todd Van Poppel, who earned the win after replacing Aaron Myette who was ejected after throwing only two pitches.

 

In all, only four times in the past 30 regular seasons has there been a save of at least five innings.

 

The last time anyone accomplished Pruitt's feat was the 2014 World Series. San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner came out of the bullpen in Game 7 to earn the save and lift the Giants to a championship over the Kansas City Royals.

Rizzo just blew up the pirates catcher with a take out slide at home - causing him to throw wild and allow 2 runners to score.

 

I so thought we were past that ********, but the announcers seem to think it was a great slide. A real baseball play.

I need to see this play, weren't the Bucs getting blown out? What inning was it the 8th?

 

I'm in the inning now, I think.

 

Yeah, that's ********, auto DP and move the runners back.

Wo, I had no idea it was quite that bad. At 24, and with almost 1100 PA under his belt, he's pretty much a non-asset in 20-team dynasty leagues at this point.

NJH tried to trade him to me this week in TAKL and I was offended that he was even owned.

It's kind of odd to look at the Cubs Fangraphs page and see that Schwarber's a positive defender, while Baez is a negative defender. I remember the circus that was Schwarber in LF on opening day...but since then, I haven't heard much at all about his defense (which tells me it's been adequate). What a turn around that guys made.
