I think the team is very clearly better for the next year or two by doing that.

The Giants would make sense as a trading partner for Pillar. The Cubs might too as he'd be an upgrade over Almora probably, but they already have a bit of an outfield glut. Cleveland makes sense, but there's no way they'd do it for Salazar. Maybe to the Royals for someone like Jake Junis? Maybe to the Pirates for Nova?

The Braves could be a good destination for Pearce. Pearce seems like the kind of guy Seattle would target for CF...

Yeah that sounds like a plan. Unfortunately with the Jays signing Grandy and trading for Grichuk, I think they already got their answer from Cain.

That's how I kinda read it too, but the flexibility IS there that it should still be a possibility. They could have been after Ozuna or someone else, and then taken a few days for the other deals to shake out.

He played more seasons with the Expos and was better in those seasons on top of it.

I guess if it's close though it makes sense for a player to embrace the franchise that stills exists rather than the one that doesn't.

It's the Hall's decision not his. I'd imagine if Vlad was dead set on the Expos they would have respected that but I guess they wanted to get an Angel into the HOF.

I thought this got the Kibosh under a CBA ruling?

Oh could be? I remember the Winfield thing when they took it away from the players but that was a while ago. If the players wanted it back, it would have been crazy for the owners to hold up CBA negotiations over it.

Seems he made the choice.

Nah, that's been gone for maybe a decade or more.

8 voters thought Johnny Damon deserved to be in the HOF. There's a very good argument for those 8 people to lose their voting rights.

You people obviously don't understand the purpose of a pity vote. Does Johnny Damon deserve election to the HOF? Probably not. Does he deserve to be completely shut out like Brad Lidge and Carlos Zambrano? No. Voting for these marginal guys is just a recognition that they are one step above the absolute bottom tier that made the minimum ballot requirements. You stat heads have absolutely no feeling for the unspoken rules of the game.

Oh no the dumb writers voted in a way that you didn't like. Well then, get off your f***ing lazy asses, get a journalism degree, work your way up the ladder in the sports department of a major media outlet and earn a vote in the BBWAA like these shitheads all did 40 years ago.

If you're competent at your jobs and have some hiring or decision making power, you've probably made the "wrong" choice a million times just because of a gut feel or you like the person the decision is benefiting. Same thing here.

Met Chipper twice...both times he was a douchebag. Pretty much makes every D-Bag list out there (may not have been caught cheating in baseball but did on his wife, supported John Rocker, supported the Chop with incredibly racist comments) but he makes first ballot when others are held back because of supposedly not being good people (Alomar comes to mind). No argument that he deserves to be there. Just hate the BBWAA and their moral high ground until it's a good ole' white boy.

Barf.

Just plain barf at this socialist democratic drivel especially the last sentence. More than half of the legitimate snubs on this ballot are good old white boys. This is not a race thing.

Hmm well on twitter he announced it as his decision.

And they don't want to wait for Trout

And Pujols will go in as a Cardinal obviously

almost every non-steroid related public snub has been a black or hispanic (especially first ballot snubs). It's the "plays the game right" syndrome...almost every time that is said it seems to be a white boy.

PS. I've never voted anything but right in my entire life. I don't let my political beliefs or the colour of my skin cloud my vision on these things.

...said the man after sifting through 3 pages of bemusement over Mussina, Walker and Rolen being snubbed so far. Unless, of course, this board is also racist and we're not talking enough about McGriff.

Snub about behaviour you f***ing tool.

Please name the black and latino candidates not tied to steroids who were snubbed from election by this year's ballot due to supposed untenable behaviour.

I deleted my post as I shouldn't have called you a tool, it might be because I didn't state my case clearly. I'm talking about historical use of the "character clause".

Ferguson Jenkins, Tim Raines voters publicly stated that they weren’t voting because of cocaine use…same voters put Paul Molitor in on a first ballot. Robbie Alomar was left off for on and off field issues (his marriage issues). Admitted sex addict Wade Boggs was a first ballot HOF though. Mays was left off of ballots citing that he used Greenies, ignoring that the Yankees injected amphetamines into Mantle. The only white player where I remember the voters throwing out the “Character clause” is Schilling. I disagree with his snub too.
