Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Rush are a phenomenal band but it's o.k. to recognize 5hat their haters are not completely wrong. They can be pretty cheezy especially with the pretentious Ayn Rand inspired lyrics. Stroman doesn't know what he's talking about, he literally hates any music where you can recognize that instruments are being played by humans. For the people who still watch Buffalo TV with the commercials and everything, I can picture Stroman rocking out to that JG Wentworth boyband ad. This one:
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Yankees have agreed to deal for Stanton - all but official. Let's wait for that exciting Jays announcement landing that $1million a year back-up catcher - woohoo. Go play in traffic.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Go play in traffic. He's not wrong. The Jays will be doing very little that excites this offseason... Unless they decide to deal JD and commence on a rebuild. But I don't think they have the stones for that.

I’m hoping after this deal that they’ll at least start seriously considering offers for guys like Donaldson, Osuna, Happ and Smoak. The AL East is looking like it could be a two horse race for the next few years, but the Jays could be ready to compete with them in the next 2-3 years if they sell some guys now rather than try to patch a WC team together.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 You have many opinions which I have found objectionable. This, however, is a bridge too far. You are dead to me, Boxy. I was fishing. Rush is fine.

Ready? 1. 29 teams didn't get Stanton and his contract is pretty s*****. The Yanks are picking up pretty much all of it. Pretty much also assures that Bryce Harper will never need to shave his amazing beard. 2. 29 teams did not land Otani and he picked a pretty s***** destination. Just because neither of these players went to the Jays doesn't mean all we'll do is sign a backup catcher or a journeyman reliever. You people need to calm down.

His contract isn't that bad, not at 27 AAV. Unless some sort of devastating injury, the rest or pretty much all of this I agree with, ya bike!

If that's the case, the NY can just bid him farewell and let the next sucker take the declining 30s risk.

I would even listen on Stroman and Sanchez if they're unlikely to be extended.

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 So a team gets a star player and the Jays now need to throw the towel in for 2018? You guys need to give your head a shake.

Just because neither of these players went to the Jays doesn't mean all we'll do is sign a backup catcher or a journeyman reliever. You people need to calm down. It's all in the perspective of where your team is in the league. The Yankees are a MUCH better team than the Jays and they went out and proved it last year with 90+ wins and with a supposedly worse manager than Gibby as several pointed out to me. So assuming they have a new better manager and adding a 7 war player to a 90 win team we have a lot of ground to make up. The Jays are always a middling club because they will not do what the White Sox are doing now and the Astros did for several years and say "while this team might get lucky and make the playoffs, it's not a team that will win when it does scratch out a wild card birth." The Jays made the playoffs barely and got thumped by much better teams. Which was obvious with a one dimensional offense and no ace pitchers. They're too afraid to trade JD because of the PR. And if you run the team worried about PR then you'll always be that fringe team. Atkins wants to put a competitive team on the field - nice - but it would be better to put a winning team on the field and that requires taking a step back - until some GM figures this out at some point we will continually battler it out for 3rd and 4rth place. I understand wanting to go for it in 2018 but how are they going to go for it with $24million to spend with the numerous holes to fill.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 If we only extend one, I'd rather it be Sanchez, blisters and all. Stro Show is wearing thin. What is Sanchez' projected arb salary? How much does him playing very little last season affect his number?
Cbert Verified Member Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 So a team gets a star player and the Jays now need to throw the towel in for 2018? You guys need to give your head a shake. The problem is it wasn’t just “a” team that got him, it was a division rival. And not only did they get him, they pretty much gave up zero prospects which means they could still add a young stud starter if they want. I’m not completely against the Jays going for it next year, but I’m also hoping they’re starting to make other plans just in case they can’t get guys like Cain and Darvish because those are they guys they need to target. There isn’t enough parity in the division to patch a team together.
Maine Jays Verified Member Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 What is Sanchez' projected arb salary? How much does him playing very little last season affect his number? With Boras as an agent? Probably not one bit.
Cbert Verified Member Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 With Boras as an agent? Probably not one bit. He’s the reason why it’s also unlikely we extend Sanchez. Though I think Boras does have a better relationship with Shapiro than our last FO.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 If Boras asks for too much in arb, the Jays will just win their case. There's only so much Boras can do to control the process here. The main thing the arbitraters look at is the numbers so inevitably Sanchez has a weaker case than he would if he hadn't been injured.

Funny because teams like the Yankees and Cardinals don't embarrass themselves like the Astros did and they're always in the playoff hunt. White Sox haven't even done anything yet and you're using them as an example of success? Loser mentality strikes again "Losing now begets winning in the future, somehow". The Jays won the 2015 division handily. Went 3-2 against Texas and 2-4 against the Royals, not a better team. Jays won a WC spot in 2016 but save for a poor September was looking like a playoff team for most of the year. Won the WC game, swept the Rangers, lots to Cleveland 4 of 5. So a .500 record in the playoffs and two ALCS appearances is getting thumped to you.

Obviously the White Sox haven't done anything yet, they have about 8-9 tier 1 prospects that will be at the mlb level in the next 1-3 years vs about 2-3 the Jays have. I think almost any single fan here would swap rosters/minor league systems with them without even thinking twice, mostly because we know we have an average team that isn't winning jack right now. But even if the Jays did a rebuild, they wouldn't be able to accumulate the high end talent the White Sox got, just not going to happen with this roster.

If we did a rebuild we'd be trading JD, probably Osuna, Stroman, Pillar, etc. We'd absolutely get a big return, especially for the first three.

I already have enough pent up rage for Ontario Teachers. I don't need them ruining our baseball team too.
