Laika Community Moderator Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Would anyone trade Morales for either Alex Gordon or Ian Kennedy? No, they cost too much. If KC would even out the $ (or nearly) then I would for Gordon. But the costs aren't particularly close and I don't see why they would be motivated to do that.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Gordon has been really bad for 2 years now. Even if we have $20M left there.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Would anyone trade Morales for either Alex Gordon or Ian Kennedy? In an effort to get rid of 23 million you are going to take even more salary back? I'd settle for a token non prospect player in return if they would take on his salary or most of it.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Would anyone trade Morales for either Alex Gordon or Ian Kennedy? Turning $23m (Morales) of deadweight into $49m (Kennedy) or $44m (Gordon) of deadweight doesn't make a lot of sense. Might as well just keep Morales and hope he bounces back if those are the alternatives. If Alonso got 2/16, then no way any team trades for Morales except the derpy Royals who might have some sentimental attachment to him if they lose Hosmer, and even that's a reach (or a prayer).

The Royals were the only team that popped into my mind as a team that might take him on if they don't get hosmer. Even if we had to chip in 5 mil this year I would do it.

In that case, they might bring Morales back as a sop to the fans, but would probably demand a prospect too. Maybe we could offer Pompey, who is blocked here but still has a chance of being a MLB player elsewhere IMO.

There's still a lot of guys eligible for the Royals to take via FA... they'd have to miss on pretty much all of them for this to come to fruition, but I'd assume there's a slight chance. It'd be nice to free ourselves of that contract, or I hope Kendrys bounces back, for all our sake. Chris Carter (31) Lucas Duda (32) Adrian Gonzalez (36) Eric Hosmer (28) John Jaso (34) Adam Lind (34) Tyler Moore (31) Logan Morrison (30) Mike Napoli (36) Efren Navarro (32) Mark Reynolds (34) Danny Valencia (33)
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Speaking of the Royals they just might have the worst farm in baseball. That Org is in such a mess, going to be one long ass rebuild.

Ray Verified Member Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Would you rather sign J.D. Martinez to a 6-7 year contract, or try to extend Donaldson this offseason with the remaining funds we have?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) Would you rather sign J.D. Martinez to a 6-7 year contract, or try to extend Donaldson this offseason with the remaining funds we have? Sign Josh, is the obvious answer here. The remaining funds doesn't affect an extension this year. Edit: Birds can still sign players, is what I'm saying. Edited January 7, 2018 by Spanky99
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 Carrera (1.9) and Loup (1.8125) avoided arb.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Carrera (1.9) and Loup (1.8125) avoided arb. Donaldson 23 million confirmed, avoided arb
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 Sanchez signs for 2.7M. Between him (0.8), Donaldson (2.3), and Loup (0.0125) the team has spent about 3.1M more than MLBTR projected on their arb guys so far.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Travis at 1.45 (1.7 Projection)
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 So Leone, Stroman, Pillar, and Osuna left. Stroman is probably the last chance at a long term extension this offseason.

Martinez to a 6-7 year contract, or try to extend Donaldson this offseason with the remaining funds we have? Extend Donaldson. Move Vlad to 1st and Bo to 2nd. Bring them up in Sept. Roll with C- Martin 1B- Vlad 2B- Bo 3B- Donaldson SS- Gurriel (trade Tulo at the deadline) LF- FA signing CF- Alford (Trade Pillar at the Deadline) RF- Teoscar/Trade/FA DH- Pearce (Trade Morales asap for anything) Bench- Solarte, Diaz, Jensen, Carrera

Todd Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Well it's been a long winter for the jays. For the second straight year they have done nothing to improve, But maybe make it worst. Heard a lot of B.S. from the jays management team that we are interested in this guy or this guy but nothing ever happens.Teams like Houston, New York, Seattle, Giants, Minnesota, Texas, Oakland, etc are all going to kick ass this year. And the jays do nothing. As of right now have no outfield, no 5 starter, need bullpen help, and a legit back up catcher. And a big bat. Josh Can not do it bye himself. Justin Smoak is a one hit wonder. Tulo/Travis are always hurt. Remind you of anybody else......................lol And have no team speed. Remember the good old days when the jays had speed to burn. White, Alomar, Henderson(half the season) Molitor, and still had lots of power.
Todd Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Why are you trading away two guys that are always hurts to bring up a guy that is also always hurt. And nobody wants these two players TULO/TRAVIS. People have to get over this guy. Why take up a roster spot for a nobody just like Pompey.

As for the Jays--you do realize it's still a month till pitchers and catchers report. Still lots of time to sign free agents.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 If we could pull off 1 or 2 sexy moves like Solarte and Diaz, i'd be happy. We needed to raise the floor and we have done that in the infield. I am hoping that Jansen is the Backup/Part time catcher we need. What we really need is a decent backend starter and an outfielder. I feel like 15-20 Mil should be enough to get these things. I like the idea of a Jason Vargas and Jarrod Dyson. Let Alford and Teoscar compete for the last outfield spot.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 It would be awesome if we could trade for McHugh since the Astros got Cole, and sign Lorenzo Cain. That adds 5-7 wins right there if both are healthy.
