Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I would sell any of our prospects other than Bichette or Vlad to get Archer. Though they're probably only interested in those two.
Ray Verified Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 what are giving up to get archer? Enough that it's probably not worth it.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Enough that it's probably not worth it. yeah, archer would be great, but the cost would be too high. If we got Otani, you might revisit the subject!
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Nice nailed down our first signing of......Deck McGuire...again.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 I am just not comfortable at all trading prospects for SPs or giving out big contracts in FA to SPs. Just acquire as much position player talent as possible and piece together the rotation with five Alex Cobbs. Then stack as many dudes as possible that throw 100 in the pen. Might work in the regular season, but come playoff time you need those top end guys
Ray Verified Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Thoughts on signing CarGo? Still hits RHP very well despite his down season: .283/.373/.463. Won't be as speedy or good on defense as a Dyson, but he does have more power and should come cheap. Obviously it's yet to be determined if Teoscar is a platoon guy or not, but I like the idea of a CarGo/Teoscar platoon in RF. Then you have Pearce as well and Alford in AAA. That'd be some really good depth. There's a risk there though. His avg exit velocity dipped from 90.1 mph last season to 85 mph this season and his batted ball profile isn't exactly encouraging. I still think he's a good option against RHP though.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Shuffle the Deck. Solid minor league signing actually. Showed promise as a reliever
Ray Verified Member Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 I think Cargo is the kind of player we need to avoid right now. Most available free agent outfielders are players that we should avoid, but we'll have to end up signing someone. There's not really an ideal situation here. It's not like we have a young dynamite crop of MLB ready OF available in the minors to go to.

Yeah, Cargo will probably still be fairly expensive though, even if he shouldn't be. I suspect we'd get similar production from dirt cheap options like Saunders or Either.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Blue Jays prospects Hugo Cardona, Yhon Perez and Leonicio Ventura were handed 72-game suspensions for Boldenone

Key22 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Why do people feel that Otani would come to Toronto over say a New York or LA. He would probably make far more cash in a US city in terms of royalties and marketing opportunities no? Unless there is a clear financial plus to playing in TO I don't see it. We have Morales at DH so where will we hit. To play here we would likely have to offer him both DH and a rotation slot since he prefers to both pitch and hit. I want him but the Jays have never been in on high profile players likes this. They always go to the big US teams.

He'll go to the team that he feels suits him best.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 TJ Zeuch scheduled to start the AFL championship game tomorrow. Gurriel and jonathan Davis also in the starting lineup.

Atkins was saying that part of Toronto's pitch is that he will have plenty of marketing opportunities in the US regardless if he plays here or not, but if he does come here he can capitalize on Canada as well
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 They were in on both Darvish and Chapman.. There's being in on.... And there's "being in on". The Jays were not "in on" Darvish. Chapman AA admits that he screwed up and should've gone in harder. I don't think Otani will sign in TO. If the money isn't a factor I think he'll end up going to one of the bigger US markets that's a contender.

Hmm let's see...Tokyo, Osaka....and Seoul. The point being to a Japanese person, Toronto IS a large U.S. city as far as they are concerned. If you want to say you don't want to get your hopes up on the Jays signing him, that's fine. It's only 1/30 or 3.3% chance. Meaning a 96.7% chance the Jays fail to get him. But enough with the lame excuses. Realistically the Jays are in the top 10 of teams with a shot, if not the top 5. Kansas City and Tampa have no chance. The Jays do.
