I'd be OK with him as a swing guy/ SP6

I want to aim higher to fill one more solid starting rotation spot though if possible

Yeah I agree. I think we need to sign a #2 or #3 and then Biagini can start in Buffalo.

s***, especially if he has options left. And I gather he does??

Biagini has a 4.17 xFIP as a starter as well and deserves to be on the list. He's had a solid year, he's mainly been unlucky because he has a 58.7% LOB% as a starter which is pretty bad.

LOB% isn't completely luck, it's about how well you pitch out of the stretch, how well you control the running game, delivery time, etc. That's why they sent him down, IIRC.

I believe he has two more option years after this season.

I hear you guys on Sanchez

But I'm hopeful

I'm not signing two SPs in addition to Estrada

I'd like one legit SP 2 caliber guy that I want anyway

then also sign a swing man type like Anderson or Chavez as well

If Sanchez is no good in spring training the swing man gets a starting spot. If Sanchez is good to go that swing guy starts the year in the bullpen

It would be nice to add another No. 2 type starter, though they're aren't many available in free agency. Alex Cobb would be a nice add though not sure how much he costs. Not really a fan of Lance Lynn.

As a swingman/No. 6 starter, Biagini should be a candidate though I still wouldn't mind adding another arm to fit that type of role as well. Trevor Cahill would be an interesting target. Not sure if a team will sign him as a starter, but when he was with the Padres he looked like a completely different pitcher and its not because of Petco. I don't think Chavez would come back to Toronto and Anderson likely would sign anywhere that offers him a rotation spot.

Stroman

Sanchez

Cobb

Happ

Estrada

Biagini

Cahill

That rotation above looks rock solid.

I don't think he gets a 3 year deal in free agency.

Bartolo just got 13M at 45 years old.

Ian Kennedy and Mike Leake got like lifetime contacts recently.

Didn't Jason Hammel get multiple years after being released?

Marco is good! By RA9 WAR he's been as good or better than guys like Tanaka, Strasburg, Cole, Archer in the last three years.

They were all coming off good years and the Royals aren't really the smartest organization to begin with.

Kennedy & Leake were both younger when they signed their deals. Hammels got 2 years/16 million after going 15-10 with a 3.83 ERA and 1.5 WAR. Colon was coming off a 2.9 WAR season with the Mets and the Braves probably had to overpay a bit to bring him to Atlanta.

I don't actually understand your point.

Mine was - the pitching free agency market is bananas.

Every stupid deal is "explainable" in some way. The team that would have given Marco a 3 year deal would justify it somehow. It would have been there for him, if he wanted to prioritize that.

I don't know if he would have gotten three years, but I think he would have gotten at least two if he tested free agency for a similar AAV to what he signed for. Jays got a great deal here.

Does anyone know of a link to the piece Brunt did on Estrada back in May? Looked around and all I could find is the trailer

Did you try SN specials, not sure where I found it but have seen it on-line.

Couldn't find the Estrada piece but the Osuna one was online. I really liked how they showed his debut at Yankees stadium and then capping off with closing out game 5. Showing the last strike from the field on right field was amazing...

Yup, it's out there.
