Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 tulo has been better defensively this year over Goins. And actually has a history of knowing how to hit. If he all of a sudden had a 850 ops next year no one would really be too surprised. If goins did that there would be articles on fangraphs. Tulo is still our best option at SS Don't feed the troll please. Thank you.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Pearce is capable of providing much more value, that's why he should be starting over Zeke. Welcome to the board! Pearce has been replacement level. Carrera has contributed a bit. Plus we know Pearce has some injury concerns so he should be splitting time.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Carrera has the physical ability to play the OF...he's just stupid. Perhaps that can be fixed. Pearce should not be in the OF at all. Carrera is also having a breakout season, by his standards. It might be worth it to keep him around in case he's another late bloomer type. Note that there's only a 20 point difference in OBP between Pearce's "bad" season and Carrera's "breakout" season. So one would have to assume that will continue which is not guaranteed just for Carrera to have a marginal advantage at the plate. Carrera is younger though. It's not the play of Carrera nor Pearce that is ailing this team and playing one over the other isn't going to be the difference maker. Ideally you have Carrera playing as the 4th OF and Pearce as DH/PH with both being very good bench options but this team is not built to make that possible. Trading one over the other really depends on which player nets a better return. I'd be pretty indifferent in who gets jettisoned, assuming equal value back.

Tulo is still our best option at SS My point was the dollar value of Tulo for the defense and especially the offence has never made sense and is the main the reason they can't move him. Goins is still better dollar value till someone comes up from the minors. The problem is this management won't eat any of Tulo's salary to get rid of him.....
Ultimate Verified Member Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Far too small a sample size to even try to project that to future performance (which if you can't do, makes it useless in practical terms). Even the sample sizes for what I mentioned are far too small to really be useful in general, but they do hint at something that may be worth exploring in conjunction with Goins statements on approach. You are assuming that his comments and his SSS RISP numbers are mutually exclusive. Goins is aware of the stat and he's aware that there are a lot of dumb fans out there who think it means something and this is what led to him making comments about his "different approach".

You really have no idea whether they will eat any of his salary to get rid of him. I am fairly certain they would be willing to eat some of it. The issue is that in order to move him they would probably have to eat a really high percentage of his remaining salary. When you are paying most of his salary anyway you might as well keep the player and hope he turns it around especially since he is a good clubhouse presence and we don't have a good alternative ready yet.

You are right I have no idea as to the amount of his salary they would be willing to absorb but looking at his trending since 2015 to present and with the $20 mill per year salary it would be sizable in order to move him.

All but impossible really. Realistically they'd have to eat 50% of it to make anyone even look at him. 10 million for a projected 1.5 WAR SS throughthe rest of his decline years is still pretty fugly when they could just get someone else to do it for less. If Shatkins manages to pull off a Tulo trade without eating 50% of the remainder or by adding decent prospects it would be pretty shocking.
FIAF Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Author Posted August 16, 2017 He's sexy... but that bald bastard Steave Pearce keeps stealing his playing time, bruh! Exactly. I cringe whenever he doesn't start. A team like this needs someone like him. Has speed, plays fundamentally. And he hits. Zeik!
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Hello. Just wondering why he never starts when he's been one of the better hitters for a while now. Sure he's not a power hitter but he gets things going. Should be a starter. Anyone else feel like this could EC account?
FIAF Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Author Posted August 16, 2017 By the way anyone else thinks it's hilarious that his last name is Carrera which means Racetrack in Spanish and he actually has speed?

It also doesn't mean racetrack. It means run, running, .... race. Theres no track. Or career...depending on its usage.

Zeik! do you actually watch him play?? fundamentally he sucks - throws to wrong base, makes TV dives, misses catches on routine flyballs Speed is above average but he is not a good baserunner
FIAF Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 You lot are ridiculous you make it seem like he's Bartolo Colon in the outfield. He's a good player. I'm not saying he's Encarnacion.
