Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Pick up Nick Franklin. Franklin and Coglan would help fill out our roster nicely.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 There's an annoying amount of replacement-level, low-upside players on the 25-man right now: Carrera, Smoak, Goins, Saltalamacchia, Tepera, Leone. Blech.

Blech. It's not awesome! I'll add Barney as a low-upside guy. Also, it's important to note that the upper minors is still pretty thin. Particularly with starting pitchers - every depth guy who Toronto could realistically go to in 2017 sucks. Some of them suck A LOT. On the position side I suppose there are a few good options and the depth is probably average-ish. But man, that SP depth...

Blech. Saltalamacchia I don't mind because he's just a backup catcher, not much wiggle room there. Leone is just a replacement for Osuna until he's back. Everyone else yup - blech. Maybe the waiver wire will get interesting down the line - I doubt it though. I have a feeling we might see Pompey sooner than later

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Which team in the AL is banged up enough to use Goins as a starter? Could be Cleveland with Kipnis hurt.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Could be Cleveland with Kipnis hurt. They'd go with all glove bit of a bat Urshela and move Jose to 2nd, though. They went with Yandy for his stick.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Just think back to the Vizquel days if you want to complain about the 25th roster spot.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 The waiver wire is certainly intriguing bro. Yeah intriguing maybe we can pick up pieces kind of like how we picked up Grilli or Barney 2 years ago, but what I mean is higher-upside players. Nick Franklin may well be one of the higher-upside players we see on the waiver wire, which is why I would love for us to snap him up!!

There's plenty more if we squint a bit.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Franklin grades out horribly at practically every position on defence. His bat would be nice to have around though.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Even at age 40 - he hit better than Goins... Plus Vizquel at least WAS somebody useful at one time. If I had the choice between a washed up player and a talentless scrub and both were projected to be equally useless, I'd take the has-been. Phil Niekro first ever HOF member to play for the Jays.
nightsky19 Verified Member Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 I felt he could have served as the pinch runner / backup outfielder of Blue Jays.
