BlueJaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 For those who have seen a Blue Jays game on the road in another teams stadium what was the experience like, more specifically how were fans of the home team towards you? This coming August I'm going to the Blue Jays and Rays game on August 24th at Tropicana Field and wondering what to expect? It won't be my first time seeing a Toronto based team on the road because in the past I have gone to a Maple Leafs game in Tampa Bay in December 2007 and this past December I was at the Raptors game in Orlando. If it matters I got tickets in the 2nd row behind the Blue Jays dugout and I'm sure there will be other Jays fans down there since I have seen them before and I realize it won't be the amount of fans like when they play in Seattle.
Jay Train Verified Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 I've seen games in Boston, Cleveland, Anaheim, Chicago and New York and have never had any issues. As long as you're not belligerent there is no reason anyone should treat you poorly.

Been all over to watch the Jays. Never ever had an issue. usually the opposite. Other fans welcoming and a little friendly banter. The Trop is empty. You wont have any problems and its a great place for autographs from Jays if you have kids. They go out of their way to find their supporters there, especially behind the dugout. there will be a big gathering of Jays fans in those seats on the road. Sat beside the Sheepdogs and George Strombo....in Anaheim 2015. We had a blast. Just all Canadians/Jays fans.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 You definitely won't have to bother about opposing fans if the Trop is where you're going.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Never had any issues. Hell I've walked through the Bronx to Yankee Stadium from the Hotel wearing my Jays gear with my GF (could tell we weren't from there ) and everything was fine. Though I wouldn't recommend it late at night. Almost everyone loves Canadians since we are so harmless.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Have yet to go visit an opposing team's park. Fenway for a Jays game is at the top of my baseball bucket list.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 My only bad experience was a bunch of dbags chirping me after the Jays lost 2/3 against the Twins in 2014. Jokes on them though that org is trash.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 I have been to many baseball stadiums and hockey arenas. The worst treatment I got anywhere is wearing a Rangers jersey at the ACC. I was at old Yankee stadium the year it closed decked out in Jays gear. I was actually pretty nervous but people were actually quite nice. A few comments but nothing outrageous. But at the ACC I've had beer thrown at me. I have shoved. Hit not punched but people talking a whack at me. Nothing like that anywhere else.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Have yet to go visit an opposing team's park. Fenway for a Jays game is at the top of my baseball bucket list. I went to the Red Sox Jays in the final series of last season. I'd say Fenway is the best "old" park I've seen baseball at. For new parks I'd rank Seattle's Safeco Field as my favourite that I've been to.
BlueJaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 Thanks to all those who responded. I'm also wondering for those who went to other stadiums did you happen to download the MLB.com Ballpark app? If you have it downloaded were you able to use the check-in feature at any stadium and not just at the Rogers Centre?

After all I will have my alternate blue uniform and my 59Fifty hat with the 2016 postseason patch. I have seen a lot of YouTube videos of Zack Hample asking for balls and he gets them all the time.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Jays and leaf fans are definitely one of the worst groups when it comes to acting like giant d-bags to opposing's teams/fans. Unfortunately this is true. I'm a Blue Jays and Raptors fan but I have never liked the Leafs. It's weird being on both ends of the spectrum. I like to think it's just a collection of idiots who ruins Jays fans reputations. However Raptors fans are the best in the city. Maybe it's because it's an us against the world mentality opposed to Leafs fans thinking they know everything.
jays1 Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Went to games 1 and 2 of alcs in Cleveland last year. Was amazed at how friendly everyone was. Every night at the pubs people saw our Jay's jerseys and were buying us drinks, it was unreal

Nah just kidding, Cleveland was a nice little city. I went to see the Jays play there in August, had a nice conversation with some Indians fans about the trade deadline acquisitions and possible Playoff matchup with the Jays. When we left we were all saying "See you guys in the playoffs!" which actually surprisingly happened.

When they come to Ottawa they always start fights/throw beer and stupid s***.

Cobean Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Seen the Jays play in Boston, NYC, Tampa, Baltimore, Cleveland and Chicago. Never had an issue in any of them. I am a Jays fan living in Boston for the past 8 years and try to see the Jays at least a few times a year at Fenway. Fully decked out in my gear, never one bad incident just friendly banter in good fun. Also seem to end up with at least one beer bought for me by some random Sox fan who thinks I am visiting from out of town.

I was expecting hostility but I left feeling that the whole "M*******s" thing is overblown. We wore Jays gear everywhere we went and Bostonians where like all "Going to the game today? Where you from? etc." Turned out to be more of conversation starter than a magnet for hostility.

Sorry, but I'm not buying random people in the opposing teams jersey a $12 beer.
TholesWeirdEye Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I went to a Yankee's game a few years ago. Watched a Jays fan throw a guy from the upper deck. Not sure where he went or what happened. I'm sure it was deserved.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Been to several other cities to watch Jays games. Seattle, Texas, Denver, Philly, Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas City, Oakland, and Anaheim. No one really cares enough to bother you but for some light ribbing at times. If anything they find it curious that a Canadian came all the way to watch the Jays play in their city. We Americans are a friendly bunch.

I find it's kind of a reverse of Toronto, many of Toronto's worst fans are actually at the park and the better ones stay home. The best Sox fans are in the stadium.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I've been to Cincy and Texas....been really good experiences. The Texas games were before the recent bad blood
wmoz11 Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I live one train stop away from Fenway, so I've gone to a few games in my 2 years here. I've never had a problem. Most people just like talking baseball. Once I tell them that I live 10 minutes away and I grew up in Pennsylvania, they seem a bit perplexed. There are always a ton of Jays fans in the bars before/after the game, so that's always fun.
SouthOfThe6ix Verified Member Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I live just south of Boston (Rhode Island, to be exact) and I go often decked in Jays gear. I've had mixed experiences. Most of the time, if the Jays are winning, I'll get chirped at by fans sitting around me. I'm not one to be obnoxious when I'm in "enemy territory," so most of it is unprovoked. However, if the Red Sux are winning, they don't say much of anything to me. Besides Fenway, I've seen the Jays at Yankee Stadium and it was a much more pleasant experience! This is even when it was a game the Jays had won! Other than that, I haven't seen them at another opposing team's stadium.
