G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Same as they needed a new Venditte rule a few years back lol
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Manfred acts quickly Damn
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I hope Capps is unable to cope with this and is out of baseball in a year.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I hope Capps is unable to cope with this and is out of baseball in a year. Is he douchey or something? Or do you just hate the hop that much?
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Is he douchey or something? Or do you just hate the hop that much? I think he's pretty much been cheating his way to success for years, and that annoys me.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I hope Capps is unable to cope with this and is out of baseball in a year. He still throws 100, even traditionally. I think he'll still be good - just not elite.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Lololol @ Capps 30 secs is still too long to decide if they want to challenge. They should have to decide without calling upstairs.

I agree. I imagine most of the decisions occur in under 30 seconds anyway. 25 seconds can feel like a minute when you're just staring at some fat guy staring at some other fat guy holding a phone beside his face

Governator Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Also, the auto walk is garbage. How about you can't burn 3 relievers for 3 batters unless an injury. That should speed up like every Yankee September game.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 It should just be a flag they throw on the field like football, either you challenge right away or the game moves on. This might create some funny situations where the defensive team is rushing to get set and throw a pitch before the other team throws the flag. I could even see them throw a intentional walk style pitch (which now no longer exists) just to avoid the challenge like they do in the NFL. They need to speed up the decision making - but I'm not sure a flag is going to work. No idea what the answer is. Could a clock start as soon as the ump makes a call and ticks down from say 15 seconds and they have to decide before that clock runs out?

The auto walk bothers me less now that's it's accompanied by other changes. It makes more sense as part of a series of changes that cumulatively are designed to speed up the game. I still think it's pretty pointless but it would be even more stupid if the expectation were that it could have any kind of impact on its own.

I can't wait until Gibby inevitably loses his flag in the mess of an outfit that he's wearing so he just resorts to chucking a half-full can of Diet Coke on to the field.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Are the Padres really that stupid? It's spelled out in the f***ing rules.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Are the Padres really that stupid? It's spelled out in the f***ing rules. The rule is pretty clearly directed AT Capps specifically, they'd have to be pretty retarded to think he's fine to remain as-is.

I just would prefer a rule change surrounding September and the reliever abuse in regards to game time. Warming up 3 pitchers for 3 batters with 3 commercial breaks just because you suddenly have a surplus of arms is ridiculous. Yankees abused that all last September, pretty sure the year before as well and it's annoying as hell. It's a minuscule advantage that is not often overplayed until September but slows a game down tenfold.

Yeah, this is what I want to see. I know it would be a big change, but the thing that annoys me most when watching a game is seeing a pitching change every batter. I'd like to see a pitcher have to face 3 batters or the end of an inning before they can be removed (barring injury). Catchers that rack up frequent flier miles between home plate and the pitching mound bother me too.

You shouldn't suddenly have access to a massive bullpen just because it's September. Maybe you have to fill in a lineup card with no more than 8 pitchers listed or something like that. The problem is that rules like that would be really easy to manipulate. You just take out whoever isn't fresh in the first place and for all practical purposes you still have a huge bullpen. All you would limit is the amount of pitchers per game which I suppose might still be a slight improvement.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 10 seconds more than enough time,(if you're sure).feck that hanging about until they see a replay BS. 10 seconds is the amount of time baseball pitchers take between each pitch...for them it would be like a nanosecond. I do think that it should be 30 seconds or before the pitcher is in their set position whichever comes first. As for Capps, if the PA decides to make a big deal about it, he'll end up being allowed to use it much like how Big Papi was allowed to step out of the box when they said they would enforce that.

Not like it really matters. Capps will be lucky to throw 30 innings this year.

Kind of completely different scenarios. Also, Capps negatively affects players in the union, it's not in the PA's best interest to shield him I don't think.
