He's been in the Jays minor leagues as long as I've been a following baseball so this is a little sad for me.

BJMB 2010-2014 Blue Jays top-20 prospects please lol

AJ Jimenez was a people favourite

I only have 2012 which I can't post as I made a beyond Keith Law'ian error in prospect judgement. Jimenez was 13th with Boxy being lowest on him (24th) and Sir BJay being highest on him (7th)

I posted this news last week and the mods deleted it.

Wasn't me but considering the source I'd guess that it was something like "Jimenez released, joins We Ain't Petty"

Seems odd to release him now. Why not just have him in camp?

Probably an agreement to give him a chance to catch on elsewhere where he'd get a better opportunity (although I can't imagine a better opportunity than in TO with only Salty ahead of him)

Once he's designated for assignment, he has to get released if he's not able to be traded in the DFA window. That's how it works.

The only way the Jays would have been able to bring him back is by him agreeing to re-sign to a minor league deal with invite to ST, which he's unlikely to do without at least checking around the league for other options first

Since he's been in the org. for a long time they probably have to pay him like 40K/year or something so they decided to fill his role with a guy making $1500/month.

Seems like we always have a halfway decent C prospect that never pans out.

I dunno, I think having hotshot offensive catching prospects isn't really something to be all that thrilled with, unless they can actually provide positive defensive value. Most good offensive catchers transition to other positions pretty early in their careers to save their knees anyways so hoping for the next Pudge to come along just seems to be such a longshot that's us not worth focusing on IMO. Get all the plus defenders, framers and throwers you can find and hope to hell one of them develops to be halfway passable with the bat.

I hear ya we just always have the Quiroz, Phelps, Arencibia, Chip Cannon (although he may have been a non-prospect), Arencibia, Jimenez, etc. I think all of them made lists at some point but for Cannon and Jimenez but none have been any good at all in any facet of the game really.

Even the ones that got away for Toronto such as Perez and d'Arnaud have sucked.

TINSTAACP

This is why the Martin contract was dope

What does TINSTAACP mean again? Something about Catchers not panning out as prospects?

EDIT: There is no such thing as a catching prospect.

So good he was worth mentioning twice.

There is an irreverent, tongue in cheek acronym TINSTAAPP in baseball scouting/evaluting - There is no such thing as a pitching prospect. Because so many break or bust.

There is also no such thing as a catching prospect! So many bust, it's so unpredictable.

Really prospects just suck in general. Sad!

Catching has to be the worst position in franchise history. Ernie Whitt held down the job for a long time and was pretty good at times but it seems like we've been floating from year to year with the Bengie Molina's, Arencibia's and Rod Barajas' of the world until we got Martin.

This is only helpful if you compare this to Seattle for context. Maybe San Diego too. 8 extra years but a lifetime of hot garbage outside of Gwynn and a closer.
