wk680 Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Do you really think decisions are based on who the manager is? Would Joey Votto really commit just so he'd be able to say he "played for Robbie Alomar" - like that would be some special memory he could look back at the end of his career? I guess I could buy players wanted to say they played for some legendary manager - but not an ex. ball player, who's not a manager. I don't buy it. Any legendary managers that come to mind? One that I can think of with a Canadian connection is Bobby Cox. Cito led the Jays to back to back championships, but I don't think he comes close to 'legendary' status. Anyway, it may get even harder to recruit players for the next WBC after this latest awful performance (outscored 21 to 3 in 3 games!)
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 If Steve Nash can't attract Canadian basketball players - nobody is going to help attract Canadian baseball players... All the current Canadian NBA players are committed to the program. Other things come into play. Our NBA players are very young. Rookies aren't usually permitted to play in international events. Players without a contract can't play. Sometimes contract disputes carry on well into training canl. And Wiggins didn't play because the T-Wolves asked him not to. He also hates the Jay Triano. But Wiggins has already committed to the program. He said numerous times including after the qualifier he wants to play and its important to him. The Assistant GM of Canada Basketball's son is the top prospect in the 2019 class. We are in pretty good shap. Rowan Barrett Jr. has dominated his age group and every event he's played in.
BlueJaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 The core issue is that all of the tie-breakers are f***ING AWFUL WOW.I remember at the first WBC in 2006 Canada got eliminated in the first round because of their runs allowed or something like that, despite having a 2-1 record along with the United States and Mexico. The thing which I thought was f***ed up is how the United States advanced because of that when they lost to Canada in their pool play during the first round.

IBAF rules trickle down to virtually every level of baseball. I've seen teams eliminated from a Provincial Championship because of rain cancelling a game defensive runs per inning decide an unbalanced round robin group. Tough way to lose and forces teams to open tournaments with their best pitchers.

What a douche. I wonder if anyone will bean him. It's only fair right? But yeah what a hypocritical douchebag ****.

OK I hate him as much as anyone else but did Odor say anything about Bautista's bat flip? I thought the only comments against it from the Rangers were from Bannister, Dyson and Holland.

Well then I hope Bannister and Dyson call Odor and told him what a massive piece of s*** he is for pimping a single. Explain how he's embarrassing their organization. Holland best bean Odor this year too.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Let's be clear on this... Odor's pimp job was cool. Baseball should be fun. #MakeBaseballFunAgain. We shouldn't shame Odor for bat flipping. It's hilarious and embarrassing for him that it wasn't a HR. He turned a possible triple into a single. It paints him as a hypocrite, which is also hilarious. Nobody needs to do anything to Odor, or call him out at all. He's already shown himself up.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Can we let the Rangers thing go already? We knocked them out of the playoffs two years in a row. Isn't that enough?

I feel like hating Odor as an individual and hating the Rangers are separate things at this point. Odor could be traded to another team and I don't think it would change a thing about how he is perceived around here.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 The Rangers "rivalry" will only become relevant again if we somehow meet them in the playoffs again. The first game will have a buzz but unless something happens it's pretty much squashed. it wouldn't make sense for them to poke the bear again.

I thought the only comments against it from the Rangers were from Bannister, Dyson and Holland. Everything started with THE bat flip, the culmination of which was Odor eventually punching Bautista. I don't remember Odor saying anything but it's possible he did. Regardless he and his team definitely took a self-righteous stance toward Bautista's.

He's a rat-faced hypocrite who should be shamed for it.

This is a team that threw a fit over a bat flip. They harbored their butthurt feelings for several months and waited 8 games or however many it was to exact revenge via a bean ball and a punch.

They will never like Bautista so as long as he's here they will never like us. Anything could happen. If he gets hit again s*** will hit the fan.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I see no reason to not call out douchebag Odor for something so hypocritical. It's not even about the Rangers in my opinion, it's about him.

Nothing worse than reducing your team's chance of winning so that you can show off. You don't see Altuve doing that s***, and he's ten times the player Odor is.
