fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Just saw this this morning, RIP another young person gone before his time
Jonzo Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Wow, too young.. really sad. RIP.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Horrible. Tweet from the DR Police.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 He didn't pass away, he died.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 He was a complete douchebag, but did not deserve to have to his life cut short at such a young age. RIP Yordano.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 It's a shame that these guys don't seem to be learning from the mistakes of their fallen comrades(if the reports are true). RIP
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 It's a shame that these guys don't seem to be learning from the mistakes of their fallen comrades(if the reports are true). RIP Same mentality as anything else I'm sure. 'It won't happen to me.'
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Remember when Ventura pitched the game of his life in the World Series while wearing a tribute on his hat, a few days after his friend Taveras died? That was less than three years ago.
tazsub3 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 is that the guy that the jays had problems with 2 years ago?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 is that the guy that the jays had problems with 2 years ago? Yes, though he had issues with a lot of other teams too - notable Machado and the Orioles.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Yes, though he had issues with a lot of other teams too - notable Machado and the Orioles. Ventura was an extreme hot head on the mound. Pretty sure a couple of years ago he tweeted and said Bautista was a nobody lol. Either way he was to young and very talented. RIP.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Andy Marte also died in an unrelated car accident
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 It's a shame that these guys don't seem to be learning from the mistakes of their fallen comrades(if the reports are true). RIP I'm sure there are countless other players who will continue to drive under the influence even after this. The most dangerous part is probably the speed they are driving at. Its one thing to drive after one too many, but when you drive like 160Km/H all it takes is a split second and you're dead.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Ventura was an extreme hot head on the mound. Pretty sure a couple of years ago he tweeted and said Bautista was a nobody lol. Either way he was to young and very talented. RIP. Ventura said Bautista was overrated, and they had a bit of a back and forth through the media. Then in spring training last year there was a story that Ventura was saying in the clubhouse that he couldn't wait until he faced Jose again so that he could throw at him - and some of the KC veterans called him out on it.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 It's always sad to see young people with 40+ years of expected life in front of them die, regardless of what we think of them as a personality inside baseball. With that being said if someone's stupid enough to drive under the influence or texting or whatever and they die because of it a lot of my sympathy tends to just disappear.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 RIP Andy and Ventura. Yordano was OT best friend too.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Holy s*** that's terrible. I was just watching videos of his hot head moments a few days ago... The little argument with Trout, beaning Machado and getting charged on the mound, etc. He was a huge douche but didn't deserve to have his life ended at 25. Crazy.
bowld Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Holy s***. When will these kids learn? This is happening far too often.. Taveras, Ventura and Fernandez... Brutal news
bzapple Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 f***, this is upsetting. Another young talent lost.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 RIP Andy Marte also died in an unrelated car accident Not sure if it's true, but someone in MLB's post's Facebook comments said that in Marte's last MLB game, Ventura was the opposing pitcher. Edit: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/jan/22/yordano-ventura-andy-marte-killed-car-crashes-baseball Ventura was 25 and Marte was 33. In a bitter twist of fate, Marte’s final MLB game was against the Royals, whose starting pitcher that day in August 2014 was Ventura.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Prior to the next CBA lets get more education academies into the DR. Not saying education would stop people from doing stupid things (like driving fast on roads that aren't set out for those speeds, cause a lot of educated people do that too). But this is a perfect excuse to change a very flawed system that has kids being pulled from school at a very young age. This doesn't need to be about the most profit now, it's about bettering a country that has given a lot for Major League Baseball.
43211234 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Yordano Ventura, Andy Marte, Jose Fernandez, Oscar Taveras, Victor Sanchez, Yorman Landa. All dead from car or boat accidents in latin america in the past 27 months. Edit: Fernandez died off the coast of Florida I should say.

I don't know the details but does anyone know how well enforced laws on drunk driving are down in the DR? Is it illegal to serve a visibly drunk person in a bar?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Author Posted January 22, 2017 He didn't pass away, he died. Oops, there's a difference? I ran a quick Google search, is the difference between the two death that was inevitable (ex. someone who was in a coma that died) passing away vs. dying on impact/immediately like this accident? I was always under the impression "passing away" is a more tame way of saying "died"
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 crazy..another young talent gone hopefully things change over there

This is a very unfortunate incident, but hopefully it isn't used as an excuse to meddle in the affairs of Dominican people and make things even worse.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 The carnage doesn't stop. Another young talent gone. Ventura was a hot head and under performed to his expectations. But he was still so young and could have broken out seemingly at any time. Major blow to the Royals.
