Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 It sucks for sure. He retired as a Blue Jay for a reason He'll be a Jay.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I really hope you guys are overblowing this. Roy wants in as a Jay. Roy Halladay unfortunately cannot want anything any more, so if the family chooses this and they're allowed to then it will end up that way.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 MLBTV is killing it for Roy, lol. Yeah, the Brandy comment is going down as real. IDFK... but Docs last interview tells everything.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 If the Hall of Fame has not lost all relevance and credibility with Harold Baines, I would probably care about the hat thing.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I believe they all know, BTS. He put it in words through an interview, why do you think he retired as a Jay, c'mon. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/halladay-knew-wanted-remembered-blue-jay/ Listen to this straight to the point.^^^^^^ Uhmm... click that link.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I really hope you guys are overblowing this. Roy wants in as a Jay. Roy kinda has no choice in the matter anymore.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Roy kinda has no choice in the matter anymore. Not if the Jays fend this interview, honour a dead man's wishes.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 (edited) Goddammit... this says it all Brandy/HOF... https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/halladay-knew-wanted-remembered-blue-jay/ lol... Gibby! https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/john-gibbons-reflects-time-spent-roy-halladay/ Edited January 23, 2019 by Spanky99
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Roy Halladay going into the HOF not wearing a Blue Jays cap, just doesn't feel right.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Not anymore. The stopped that policy a few years back. They let Vlad choose his cap and he chose the Angels. Ok, fine, but DOC's choice was Toronto. It's on public record. Why the f*** does Brandy Halladay's opinion have any bearing here?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Roy Halladay going into the HOF not wearing a Blue Jays cap, just doesn't feel right. And regardless of what Brandy wants Roy to be remembered as, he'll be remembered as a Jays great. Sorry Brandy! You can't control what people think. This is starting to really piss me off
Ray Verified Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Looks like it's official. He'll be going in with a blank cap:
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Looks like it's official. He'll be going in with a blank cap: Imagine knowing in 2009 that Doc would be inducted to the HOF and not as a blue jay. It would have been unfathomable.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 This is f***ing stupid.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Seriously. I know Brandy is a widow and all so not trying to crucify her here, but Roy himself said he wanted to go in as a Jay and then intentionally retired as a Jay when he didn’t have to. Making a decision that goes against everything he said publicly (and against common sense) is f***ing stupid.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 This is f***ing stupid. It is. I suspect more to the story that we may never hear about.

She should have had no f***ing opinion on the matter because we already knew what Roy wanted and she just had to f***ing insert herself and make some f***ing weird decision indicating that she thinks Roy not going in as a Jay means people will remember him as a baseball player. f*** Brandy Halladay. I don't care if she is a widow, but she's sure as f*** milking it for all it's worth.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 From what I'm seeing most Phillies fans don't even understand this.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I don't think people are treating this like the travesty it is
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Brandy Halladay doesn't get it. Unless something happened between her and the club after his death, she just wants to play it political by not choosing a side. The problem is that one only one team has a claim to the logo so by trying to appease both teams she pisses off one team and the other kind of shrugs with astonishment. The Hall should do her a favor and put him in as a Blue Jay.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I don't think people are treating this like the travesty it is Best player in franchise history and for the 12 years he was here he was one of the few reasons to pay attention to the team. Yeah there's Alomar but he only played here 5 years. He's only a Jay because he bounced around so much and we just so happen to be his longest tenured team. Halladay would be the team's one true Hall of Famer but nope, Brandy Halladay doesn't want to upset the Phillies, a team who doesn't give a s*** if he goes in as a Jay. It's awful.

Going in as a Jays literally would have changed nothing so not sure why she had to take this hard stance against what her husband wanted. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt but doesn’t help that I can’t comprehend why she even made this decision.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Man you are like the worst kind of person if you truly believe this s***. Oh am I? Thanks for the judgment call there, captain dipshit. Shouldn't you go find a few jokes to fly over your head?

She’s trying to be ‘fair’ and doesn’t understand that in this situation any player would go in with a Jays cap, and that Philly fans would 100% expect him to.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Well, look on the bright side. Now, we'll remember that he played baseball Instead of no logo so he's considered an MLB player maybe Brandy Halladay should take it one step further. Put the peace sign on his hat to remind everyone that he's not just a Blue Jay, a Philly or even an MLB player, but remind everyone that he was simply a citizen of the world.

If she's just trying to ride the fence, then I went too hard in the paint, so my bad. I probably shouldn't have assigned malicious intent, I just didn't rely understand her need to insert herself otherwise. Did the hall ask her for the hat or did she declare it pre-emptively?

Never apologize. Someone's gotta carry the tentpole as far out as possible otherwise we end up with a milquetoast "gee whiz that's too bad" response to one of the biggest travesties in the franchise's history. I mean seriously, Game 6 against the Royals might be the only thing that tops this.
