G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Impossible to answer. For one thing, you can't really assume that Posey isn't on the juice. I'm. Still going to guess not all that close
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Great bat Great arm But s*** defensive play otherwise and poor steal/CS ratio Still a Hall Of Famer though Meanwhile Larry Walker had a great bat, great arm, great defense, and good baserunning. The guy was one of the best five-tool players of all time. He should be in the HoF over Vlad.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Geezus, this logjam isn't going to clear up anytime soon is it?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Great bat Great arm But s*** defensive play otherwise and poor steal/CS ratio Still a Hall Of Famer though Strong disagree if guys like Walker and Edmonds aren't going to get in.

Below is a pretty interesting article on ESPN. Love Vlad and he should be in the HOF, but Walker out WAR'ed him. He gets discounted for COL numbers even though they are park adjusted. Papi will go into the HOF, despite the DH and roids issue but Edgar Martinez wont. Its frustrating. As snubs show, WAR won't carry you to Cooperstown http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18493610/as-snubs-show-war-carry-cooperstown
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Seems like this narrative of Bonds yes Clemens no is getting more popular the last few years. Does Barry get in eventually?

devo Verified Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Who y'all got going in this year: I got: 1. Mo 2. Edgar 3. Halladay I could see Mussina getting in this year too but I think he will probably have to wait another couple years.

Halladay I could see Mussina getting in this year too but I think he will probably have to wait another couple years. Yup that's a sensible selection. Halladay and Rivera are the only locks IMO, but it's Martinez's last eligible year so he should get the extra few percent that he needs.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Alive is Halladay a 1st ballot? No.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Alive is Halladay a 1st ballot? IMO yes, but it would have been close.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 (edited) Alive is Halladay a 1st ballot? Except for the freak of nature that was Randy Johnson from 2000-2004, Halladay was probably the best pitcher of the 2000s, I think that distinction alone should be enough to make him a first ballot. Where someone like Mussina, who certainly deserves to be in the Hall, was never the best pitcher in baseball, Halladay was. Obviously Clemens has a significantly stronger case, as does Schilling and some others, but Roy's consistent excellency in my eyes makes him a first ballot guy, despite the early retirement. Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Except for the freak of nature that was Randy Johnson from 200-2004 Being alive for 1800 years would certainly put you in the freak of nature category.

I don't love the Martinez selection (although as someone who followed the Mariners, I greatly enjoyed watching him hit), but the Hall voting pack seems to have bought the narrative. I would like to see Walker do better. Maybe he'll get over 40 percent this year, finally, in his second last year. But it will take the veterans' committee to put him in, which I think will eventually happen.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 walker, walker, walker! He won't get in, but it ridiculous. I think Vlad's a hall of famer, but Walker was a better hitter, fielder and base runner and the gap in counting stats isn't enough not to put him in.
CanuckofChicago Verified Member Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Is anyone planning on going to Cooperstown if Halladay gets in? Btw, I have been following the hall of fame ballot tracker. So far so good for Martinez, Halladay, Rivera, and Mussina. http://www.bbhoftracker.com/

I understand wanting to go for your favourite players. But I just don't think being there for hearing speeches about how much this would have meant to Roy just seems like something I'd pass on.

Does anyone else find it odd that Javier Vazquez never even made it onto the ballot? I know it's not a big deal, but Jon Garland, Rick Ankiel, Ted Lilly, and Travis Hafner are on there.

I know it's not a big deal, but Jon Garland, Rick Ankiel, Ted Lilly, and Travis Hafner are on there. That is crazy. Unless he finds the fountain of youth, or excels in a different role - Javier Vasquez may finish his career with more WAR than King Felix......who some may argue is HOF worthy. Let that one sink in for awhile.
Drumcliff Verified Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Did not realize Rick Ankiel was on the ballot. Was it his 462 ML hits? His 51 games on the mound? His combined career WAR under 10? Is there some friendship with Tony LaRussa we don’t know about?

I understand wanting to go for your favourite players. But I just don't think being there for hearing speeches about how much this would have meant to Roy just seems like something I'd pass on. We went for the Ron Santo induction - my FIL is a big Santo fan - after he passed and it really wasn't depressing. The Cubs did some nice tributes around town. Plus the hall of fame parade is always a cool thing. This would be our third introduction. We went to see Thomas get in two years after. My wife is fine with going as long as it isn't the same year Jeter gets in she doesn't want to hang around thousands of obnoxious Yankee fans.

It's insane to think Visquel is currently on 40% of the ballots submitted, yet he finished with about 10 career WAR less than Vazquez - who was omitted from the ballot completely.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 With 16% of votes disclosed so far the HoF tracker (link) that tallies known votes currently has Halladay and Martinez at over 90% and Rivera at 100%. Mussina and Schilling are both currently over the threshold too.
