Did you see the clip of Gurriel's homer early in ST? Kid has a pretty sweet looking swing.

Seemed like good impressions. Alford didn't hit much but he did hit one bomb and played good D.

Gurriel crushed a mammoth HR on his first swing... I don't think he struck out once in his limited PA

Hard to say with Gurriel. But my questions for him is whether they are going to turn him into just a SS guy or if they want to make him a utility guy. Be interesting to see what the plan is with him.

Injuries cost Gurriel his Spring he was still able to impress in limited action. Apparently the plan is to have him play SS everyday. If he tears up the minors offensively we might see him come up and play LF at some point.

Sorry if this has been posted already.. did a few searches and can't find it. Did you guys see this? http://www.tsn.ca//must-see-donaldson-crushes-home-run-walks-straight-to-dugout~1081057

Was having a debate with a few people about this.

To me, if he's not healthy enough to even jog the bases, do I really want him hitting? A light jog around the bases really isn't strenuous. If that's too high a risk then I'm not sure I want him swinging a bat either.

latos is pitching against a collective bag of s*** today. This is about as bad a lineup as Tampa could field.

They need to stop talking about this as Latos second, third or last coming. he's not an answer to any question other than "who will opt out of their contract after getting sent to Buffalo"

Didn't they just get done saying he's willing to take an assignment to Buffalo?

lots of guys say that because they don't ever think it will happen. I doubt he takes a job in Buffalo. Latos is so far down the depth chart that he would need half of relievers and a starter or two to get injured to even get a sniff.

Doubt it. I won't be at all surprised to see Latos make the team as a long reliever.

His baseball calling skills are overrated, now that I hear him more often. I can't tell if he's monotonous or if it's something else.

He's better than anything else we have ever had in recent memory. College basketball is definitely his best call.

huh? He wasn't running the bases for any at bat. It's not like they're worried about him getting hurt on a home run trot. They wouldnt tell him "ya dont run, but if you hit a home run then go ahead." He's clearly healthy enough to do some running as he's been doing it on the side, they just want to get him live at bats without risking any injury on short bursts.

Personally love Shulman. I think he's great. Siddall is miles ahead of Tabler too, but then again so is a dying cat

Josh Donaldson (calf) is scheduled to hit again in a minor league game on Saturday.

Advice: He still hasn't been cleared for Grapefruit League action, but it doesn't sound like that day is far off. He should have no problem being ready and in the lineup for Opening Day.

Devon Travis (knee) hit in a minor league game and ran the bases on the side on Friday without any issues.

Advice: The infielder said afterwards that he felt really good. He even ran out his single during the minor league game, which he was not expected to do. Travis won't play in a game on Saturday. He's making nice progress and appears to be on track for Opening Day.

This might be the worst video I have ever seen. So much disrespect to the game of baseball. Baseball gods will handle this. https://t.co/ln1X66zrXV

This other guy went back and forth arguing with Josh. Apparently they worked a camp together.

Donaldson burns college coach for criticism

When video circulated of Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson hitting a spring training home run and casually walking to the dugout, not all were impressed.

Sean Allen, an assistant baseball coach at the University of Texas, decided to take to Twitter to chide the former MVP for his lack of hustle, Mike Axisa of CBS Sports reports.

"This might be the worst video I have ever seen. So much disrespect to the game of baseball. Baseball gods will handle this," Allen said in a since-deleted Tweet.

He was apparently unaware that Donaldson has not yet been cleared to run the bases.

"(N)ot allowed to run right now Sean. Please only condemn your players to the Baseball Gods. I bet you love to give the bunt sign," Donaldson replied.

For his part, Allen retracted his statement to Donaldson, saying, "glad to hear this. I stand corrected and apologize."

Not a fan of small ball tactics, Donaldson will look to bring his home run prowess to big league camp during the weekend's games. He is still expected to be available for opening day.
