Does he though? I don't know. Obviously he adds an element of speed but absolutely no power. He doesn't get on base and his defence is average at best.

Outside of adding speed he doesn't bring much to the table. If we were to take his full contract we better be trading next to nothing prospect wise.

Does he what? Improve the team next year? He's probably a 2 WAR player or so moving forward. I've written off Travis as a reliable option. I'm not really aware of anyone else in the org who is ready to contribute at 2B next year either. And yeah I agree, Gordon is probably close to market value. So I wouldn't give up much prospect-wise either but I would say he improves this team's 2B situation this year and next for sure.

This may also mean Travis will be likely moved to LF, provided he's healthy. Gordon at 2B and Travis in LF is an improvement for sure, although i fear Travis' knee is going to be an ongoing issue.

I hear ya but I read that Gordon can play a capable OF. Barely played it in the minors but did fine and in Winter League he'd play LF and did well. So he could play OF in the event that Travis actually manages to stay on the field moving forward.

I've always loved Gordon's game.

Not sure if it is a wise move at this time though.

Gordon

Bautista

Donaldson

Smoak

Morales

Martin

Tulo

Carrera/Pierce

Pillar

Not bad, I wish we would go after some pitching as well.

f***ing does anyone else look at our lineup and just think to themselves, damn that looks pretty! but whenever game time rolls around its like pulling teeth.

Lately I have been looking at the lineup and saying, F..k, that's a lot of money for no production! Has to be Brooke's fault.

Speed is never a bad thing especially for this team; however be aware that post steroid suspension Gordon is not as good as pre suspension. Those little vitamins helped.....a lot.

Guys, its all part of the ultimate plan to trade Tulo and move Gordon to SS.

Watch and learn folks, Shapiro/Atkins got this.

All kidding aside, I don't mind Gordon depending on the price. But that goes without saying this applies for nearly every player lol.

There is at least a lot of money coming off the books. Estrada, Liriano, Bautista alone are north of 40 million.

I counted about $55M in free agents coming off the books with 6 guys due pay increases in Arb (Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna, Pillar, Sanchez, Donaldson?). If the Jays are serious about being competitive in 2018, they probably need to be willing to spend a little more on payroll. Of course the risk would be possibly getting stuck with additional albatross contracts.

Yeah and Zeke is making $1.1M this season. I would non-tender him and go with one of the above for next season. I wonder what anyone will be willing to pay J.D. Martinez this off season. probably too much, considering the other pending OF free agents.

ETA: an outfield of Travis, Pillar and Alford in 2018 ?

Gordon would be more of a 2018 move since the Jays are pretty much done in 2017 regardless. I wonder if they would try Travis in a different position that might be easier on his body (LF?). I see no other point in acquiring Gordon unless they had plans to move Travis to a different spot. Gordon alone isn't going to change anything for 2017, and they'd still have him in 2018-2020 so they'll have to play him somewhere.

Possibly Gordon could be put in LF also. With his speed, he can certainly go get some balls, assuming he can get a decent read. Gordons's D at 2B is pretty good, so trying Travis in LF also makes sense

Unfortunately, he's the type of guy who probably won't net us anything in return because he has no name recognition. Good for Danny though, he's had a great year for us.

true, name recognition is awfully important. Sometimes the fans and media put a lot of pressure on management to make a deal and overpay.

I would rather they keep him anyway, as he will be cheap and hopefully continue to be effective for a few more years.

Joe Smith had a second successful outing at AAA on Monday, so should be on track to rejoin the Jays later in the week. If he can show he is back to where he was before going on the DL, hopefully the Jays can trade him for a decent return.

If those two are in your outfield next season then they're not looking to contend.

Pompey (LF) Pillar (CF) and Alford (RF) with DSJ as the 4th OF.

I'd take that over this year's dog's breakfast.

Pompey makes Travis look like Cal Ripken when it comes to durability so I wouldn't count on it.

Alford LF > Pearce

Smith Jr 4to OF > ZeKe
