KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I mean he isn't anything special but surely useful. I think the scouting reports have him down as a well below average player defensively and though he has pop, it's not enough to move him to another position. Classic tweener profile.

Governator Community Moderator Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Is he working for sportsnet again or just his old sources? I'm assuming they'll drop a pen arm, we currently have 9. Valdez?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I just realized that it's only a two game series. Ugh, two off days in the same week is such garbage scheduling. Painful, isn't it. At least we get some reinforcements back on Friday.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I always thought it was the injury that took a long time to fully recover from...I hope I'm dead wrong. You're wrong, baseball players break the hamate bone all the time(swinging the bat), many of them end up having it removed. The name escapes me, but there was a great switch-hitter that had them removed in both of his hands. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamate_bone
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Painful, isn't it. At least we get some reinforcements back on Friday. You want as many off days as possible during an injury plague like this. Your guys get extra days to recover and you don't have to go into battle without them.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Painful, isn't it. At least we get some reinforcements back on Friday. It looks like we then get thirteen games in a row, so that will be good. Maybe not for the team, but for us, at least...

wk680 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Looks promising. I also saw Liriano listed as being slated to begin rehab assignment this weekend, so both could be back soon. With those two(if they return and are effective) and the impending return of JD and Tulo, the roster becomes pretty solid again. According to current win projections by fangraphs, Jays are still in the hunt for a post-season spot: Astros 95, Indians 90, Red Sox 90, Yankees 89, Orioles 83, Jays 82, Angels 82, Rays 82, Rangers 81, Tigers 80, Twins 80, etc.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Apparently Tulo and Donaldson are confirmed to play Friday night barring they don't step on a banna peel walking off the plane. I would like to see them get a couple of at-bats in Dunedin today since yesterday was rained out. But I doubt they will. Will need to score runs on Friday as Boslinger is starting. He's been a complete dumpster fire and has an excellent chance of derailing our optimism.

Under on that.. they're still waiting for Price, and the rotation is mediocre after Sale and their offense has been hit and miss, usually depending on the other team's bullpen (See Minnesota, Texas games vs. the Red Sox), and the Yankees aren't certain to keep playing at their current pace, especially considering only Pineda and Severino are solid starters--Tanaka and Sabathia stink and Montgomery isn't guaranteed to hold up through the summer.. plus, some of the bats are due for regression, especially Judge, Castro, Gregorius and Holliday--who are all riding inflated BABIP. And I imagine Severino and Montgomery are on innings limits... And the Orioles..will likely not be in contention by the All-Star break.. no decent pitching outside of Bundy and no Britton in the pen means there's a reasonable chance the coming fire sale begins soon, especially considering Britton, Tillman, Machado, etc. are unlikely to resign with the O's after 2017 or 2018, depending on the player, due to Angelos being cheap and/or wasteful with money.. plus a fairly grim future for the O's because of the Yanks and Red Sox, plus they have little in the system to replace many of their free agents.. Cleveland really needs: 1. Edwin to start hitting (.217/.345/.410), worst strikeout rate of his career (28.2%), Indians wasted a lot of money to bring him in, when he's basically the same guy as Napoli at this point in his career--low AVG and high K... they could've kept Napoli for much less money. 2. Starting pitching (Bauer, Salazar and Tomlin have regressed HARD.. all with ERAs over 5, Kluber's hurt and only Carrasco has been any good--not convinced on Clevinger). 3. OF and bench help (AJax, Almonte and Guyer are hurt, Zimmer's not quite MLB ready) Rangers need bullpen helpm Rays need $$$.. and will the Twins keep their record up through the summer with questionable pitching depth? Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Hooooooly s***... lol just went for a coffee break at work, I'm coming back into my s***** generic office building, and for some reason Troy Tulowitzki was there. I didn't bug him because he was with his wife and toddler. Damn, he is super handsome in person.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 What I would like to see and what I think we'll see are two different things but hot damn this lineup looks good again. I could see Gibby doing something like this: 1. Pillar 2. JD 3. Jose 4. Morales 5. Smoak 6. Travis 7. Tulo 8. Martin 9. Zeke

Ray Verified Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 nope Whether or not any one likes it, it seems like a trade that this front office would make. Buy low and hope for a bounce back. Like Liriano, Grilli, Benoit etc.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I kind of do. At least if a game is out of hand one way or the other I'd prefer not. This is not the NHL or wrestling. No need to take unnecessary risks for injuries or suspensions just when the lineup is back in order. We've already seen Odor use all his might to hit Bautista square on the cheek and barely cause him to flinch. I don't need to see the man with the punch of a 5 year old girl try to swing again.

Like Liriano, Grilli, Benoit etc. That's a hard sell. Granderson really has nothing in common with those three buy-low players. He's expensive, old, and bad. Those three were only one or two of those traits when acquired.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 That's a hard sell. Granderson really has nothing in common with those three buy-low players. Veteren player making a high salary not doing well in the season. Trade for him and hope a change in scenery helps him out. Sounds vaguely similar to the same position Liriano was in. Granderson is hitting .222/.315/.476 with an OPS of .791 in May. There's reasons to believe he can turn it around. He's old, but we'll have him for what? 4 months if we do the trade this week? He's expensive, but that gives us leverage more than anything. Mets can eat a bit of salary, or we can take on a bit more and get prospect capital in return. It's not the worst idea in the world. We get a left handed bat in our lineup who has a good track record.
