Looks like that notion was mostly #FakeNews

Shapiro probably saw the writing on the wall and hired a PR firm to plant some stories in Ontario making him look bright. Then Ed Rogers was psychologically infiltrated and Shatkins was free to flee to Canada.

It'll be a long next ten years for Toronto baseball fans, I tell you what.

top notch post with a conspiracy theory thrown in

Steve Pearce is so lost at the plate that he's not even trying to hit the ball hard anymore. He's up there just trying to make contact. Pretty sad.

At what point do we consider Pearce to be a bust? He looks absolutely lost and once you're in Gibby's bad books it's hard for him to ever trust you.

I really hope he turns it around soon as I thought he'd be a big part of staying competitive this season and next. Only Travis has been as disappointing IMO, but at least Travis has shown a glimmer of hope in his last few appearances.

Salty I had no expectations of, and Bautista (while still underperforming) isn't as big a disappointment in part because he's unlikely to be here next year, and he wasn't great last year.

Pearce is giving me serious Melky Cabrera year 1 vibes (another very popular signing at the time). Pearce does not move well at all. I'm thinking there's something fundamentally wrong which sucks because he would be an awesome addition to the team otherwise.

Travis actually has not made awful contact. His expected wOBA is .294, which obviously isn't good but it's well within early season variance for a talented player.

Actual wOBA is .168 so the gap is huge.

Pearce has a .205 xwOBA compared to .179 actual -- awful either way.

Unlucky Blue Jays (xwOBA - wOBA; difference)

Devon Travis 0.294 - 0.168 0.126

Kendrys Morales 0.374 - 0.289 0.085

Jose Bautista 0.294 - 0.236 0.058

Awful Blue Jays

Jarrod Saltalamacchia 0.085 - 0.041 0.044

Steve Pearce 0.205 - 0.179 0.026

Fair Results Blue Jays

Justin Smoak 0.353 - 0.353 0.000

Russell Martin 0.308 - 0.308 0.000

Troy Tulowitzki 0.284 - 0.297 -0.013

Darwin Barney 0.293 - 0.289 0.004

Chris Coghlan 0.242 - 0.239 0.003

Lucky Blue Jays

Kevin Pillar 0.307 - 0.355 -0.048

Ryan Goins 0.322 - 0.382 -0.060

Ezequiel Carrera 0.246 - 0.314 -0.068

Josh Donaldson 0.328 - 0.434 -0.106

Why is Latos getting another start

Don't we have ANYONE else we can run out there?!?!?!

Handsome T.J. House is pretty stellar through 3 starts. He did have that big scare in spring training but if that's not preventing him from making starts in AAA, I don't see why it should prevent him from starting in the majors.

Still to early but the results have been brutal for Pearce. Age and injuries may have caught up to him.

No idea what Shatkins is doing with Latos and Lawrence. We have 3 better starters in AAA than either of those two bums. Bolsinger, House and Oberholtzer. All 3 are pitching very well in AAA.

It seems like they might have actually have scrapped their way in to having some okay depth at SP but they are pissing it away by giving multiple starts to non-big league talent instead.

That's just it.

Latos was even sucking in AAA

Might explain why we got him at such a reasonable price...and here we thought all the other GMs were just dumb.

[retrospectoscope with benefit of hindsight]

Imagine if we'd signed Eric Thames instead of Pearce

Too bad. I said we should have signed both.

I was fine with any of Pearce, Thames or Pagan, didn't feel strongly that any one would be THAT much better

That's embarrassing, what a snowflake.(The blogger)

Stroman himself is a drama queen snowflake. Yes Zaun is an idiot and wrong but the guy never takes constructive criticism. And then he spouts off all this "I don't listen to my detractors" stuff and then goes on about replying in this petty manner.

No wonder Sanchez got tired of his act. It's time to grow up and hang out with the big boys Stro.

I actually thought Zaun had a point. I hated the patronizing way he said it and all the waxing poetic about "back in my day" from a guy who retired in 2010 is pretty rich (you'd think he played in the 30s) but he's not wrong that Stroman is developing some bad habits. He's running the risk of getting ejected or starting a feud that could get a teammate injured with all his crowing. He would do well to cool it.

Today's game postponed

Means we can skip Latos??

I thought so at first but we can't because of the 2 games the next day. Stroman pitched the 23rd and is next up after the Latos/Lawrence duo. He won't be ready until the 28th.

Yeah you're right

Crap

Maybe they re-think him and look at how House would line up now...

You thought the guy in the pink suit telling Stroman not to bring attention to himself had a point?

Yes and I think I explained why I think that relatively well. Look I hate Zaun as much as the next guy but just because he's insufferable doesn't mean everything he says is wrong. Hypocrical as hell sure but not necessarily wrong.
