Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 To be fair - nobody could have predicted that Price's elbow would be f***ed up. Sure we could. He's a pitcher.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Cano still has 6 years of getting paid $24 million after this season. He's been worth it so far, but the back-end of that contract will probably get ugly. That contract looks even worse because of the fact that the Mariners probably could've gotten him significantly cheaper had they not been idiots and bid against themselves. I believe the next best offer Cano had was 7/175 from the Yankees, and the Mariners went up to $240 million for no apparent reason.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Cocaine use is up everywhere. Even in Toronto its everywhere now and you go out on a Friday or Saturday and you're probably bumping into someone who has it. NHL players its probably even higher. Perhaps I was oblivious to it before, but it certainly appears cocaine use is way up in our area on a recreational level. It's been a massive issue in the NHL for years too, so I'm not surprised it's an issue in MLB (or the NFL/NBA for that matter).
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 According to Fangraphs, Albert Pujols entered play Monday as the least valuable position player in the American League, at least among the 87 qualifiers for the batting title. “We don’t attach that statement to Albert Pujols,” general manager Billy Epplersaid. “That is definitely not something we believe.” Fangraphs rated Pujols at -1.0 WAR (wins above replacement), essentially arguing a generic minor league callup would be more valuable to the Angels. “Than Albert?” manager Mike Scioscia said. “The guy is, what, fourth or fifth in our league in RBIs? Those guys don’t fall off of trees. This guy has done a good job for us.” Hnnnnnnnnghhhhhhhh

To quote Crash Davis, " he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a f***ing boat."
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Orioles acquiring Hellickson. Duquette isn't playing around. He wants 4th place in the East and is not going let the Jays get it.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Great deal for the Jays Yeah didn't look at Hellickson's numbers this year. He was good last year but trash this year. Maybe Duquette is tanking. Hmmm.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Man watching Brandon Morrow again feels weird, stuff is still disgusting.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I have no idea why the Mets thought they needed to acquire a reliever, specially when they've stated they're shopping Reed and others.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Nick Franklin DFA He's been awful this year Could he rebound??
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Wow, the last CBA had an extra nugget that just got unveiled Teams who spend above the higher threshold luxury tax not only get penalized financially, but now their top draft pick will also be lowered https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/new-cba-to-penalize-high-payroll-teams-with-lowered-draft-picks.html?fv-home=true&post-id=98599
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I can't see the Dodgers willing to go back over 237M to trade for Verlander
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Nick Franklin DFA He's been awful this year Could he rebound?? Sure. Was hyped up as a prospect coming up and hasn't lived up to the billing at the big league level. Had some success in Tampa last season before going on the DL. We've seen guys like Morrison, Alonso, Smoak, Owings, Gennett etc. have breakout years finally, so it could be possible with Franklin given some regular playing time and a new environment. Doesn't hurt to take a flier on him since he's still just 26. Especially with Tulo now on the DL, that means both Goins + Barney will be getting everyday AB's.

This board was highly in favour of trading for him before we got Travis And yeah right he could fill a spot nicely Oh and he's already in Toronto LOL
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Nick Franklin DFA He's been awful this year Could he rebound?? At this point, he's probably a bench guy. Basically no different from Goins or Barney.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Wily Peralta, especially if Liriano and/or Estrada are traded and we need the innings. Maybe Martin can sort him out, but at worst nothing lost.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 The Dodgers have won an MLB record 51 straight games in which they held the lead at any point during the game.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 All the twitter people saying Yankees likely to trade for Jaime Garcia for sure and possibly Sonny Gray as well
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Adrian Beltre is 1 hit away from 3,000. I LOVE watching these historic moments happen.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Beltre is definitely the type of player the casual baseball fan won't realize how great hes actually been
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 The Marlins hit A.J. Ellis 2nd in the order lol
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Congrats to Beltre on hitting his 3,000th knock today, this guy's criminally under-rated. Arguably the best 3rd baseman ever, alongside Brooks Robinson!

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Still a far cry from Schmidt or Arod, but a no doubt HOFer A-Rod played more games at shortstop than at third during his career, although he nearly had more WAR than Beltre at 3B alone lol.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Still a far cry from Schmidt or Arod, but a no doubt HOFer I disagree on Schmidt, and certainly A-Rod for reasons Org mentions(he should've stayed at SS, with the Yankees). If Arenado and Machado stay healthy with long careers they might join the conversation.
