I highly doubt that was Duquette's call. That kind of philosophy has Angelos written all over it.

Lmao @ Jack Morris getting in while Mike Mussina and Kevin Brown might not. These idiots have no f***ing idea what they’re doing.

Slightly above average pitcher who was an ******* to everyone outside of baseball (leading, indirectly, to one woman's death even). I don't get why so many believe he should be in.

They were elected via the Modern Ballot. Not sure what that is exactly.

Alan Trammell had a pretty good case for the HoF IMO while Morris did not.

Fangraphs asked various journalists (including Shi Davidi) to vote on the ballot:

Haha, Paul Beeston was on the committee:

This year's committee consisted of Hall of Famers George Brett, Rod Carew, Bobby Cox, Dennis Eckersley, John Schuerholz, Don Sutton, Dave Winfield and Robin Yount; major league executives Sandy Alderson (Mets), Paul Beeston (Blue Jays), Bob Castellini (Reds), Bill DeWitt (Cardinals) and David Glass (Royals); and veteran media members/historians Bob Elliott, Steve Hirdt and Jayson Stark.

Did David Wells even get one vote?

Morris and Wells have equivalent careers and Wells is also a playoff hero.

Jack Morris is the baseball version of Trump. He got voted in just to f*** over the system or as a protest vote.

LOL @ you for mentioning Beeston but failing to laugh at Bob Elliott. You are across the pond though so I'll give you a pass.

Late last night rumours mounted rhat Cubs were signing Brandon Morrow for 2/20 then those rumours got shot down. Does sound like they're heavy in negotiations with him.

Sources close to*Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News*tell her that the Mets have talked to “at least two teams” about trading former All-Star*Matt Harvey*this winter.*This seems to be part of a larger strategy that Ackert describes as “dipping into their strength of starting pitchers to address their needs heading into the 2018 season.”

One of Ackert’s sources says that the Mets want to “flip Harvey for a reliever”, and are more interested in moving him than fellow starters*Robert Gsellman*or*Seth Lugo.

Cards are apparently going hard after Colome. Wonder what we could get from them if we dangled Donaldson and Osuna. Gyorko, Reyes, Flaherty and Bader would be a nice start...

MLBTR on Morrow to Cubs:

MONDAY, 7:09am: The deal is complete, pending a physical, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal will be for two years and $21MM. Morrow will earn $9MM in 2018 and 2019, with a $3MM buyout or a $12MM vesting option for the 2020 season.

Is he going to be closing for that money?

Good for Morrow, I'm happy for him

Agree, hope he stays injury free.

Multiple injury hit seasons, signs a minor league deal with the Dodgers and turns that into a great season and a big payday. The life of a reliever!

MLBTR: The Red Sox are advising rival organizations that they’ll consider dealing away center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). That stance, he notes, is tied to the team’s efforts to add a power bat — presumably, one that would occupy a corner outfield spot and bump Andrew Benintendi into center.

It's 2017 and Boston has tunnel vision about adding 'power' instead of just adding talent wherever they can. This bodes very well for Toronto in the long term.

Red Sox could easily sign Martinez and Hosmer to absurd contracts. Short term it’ll improve them, but they’ll soon regret it.

Yes

Dombrowski could definitely find a way to ruin the team over the next years

That won't likely happen with Cashman and the Yankees

Are other of those players even better than JBJ short term? I have my doubts.

The only argument anyone could make for Morris is how many more innings he threw than basically every other starter in career. That being said it doesn't make him a Hall of Fame pitcher.

I hate Cashman now because he's so damn good, but glad Dombrowski is in the this division now. Have to hope he destroys the Red Sox with more short term moves before they smarten up and hire someone better.

Cashman is also good cause he has less restrictions. Do you think Rogers would ever entertain adding a Stanton-esque contract?

Cashman was good before adding Stanton. In fact, I think Stanton's contract might end up hurting them in a few years once a lot of their young players start getting really expensive and Stanton starts to fall off, but for what they gave up to get him, it was worth it for the short term.
