Only hit was a high pop fly to CF that Eric Young Jr lost sight of in the evening sky.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Man, Cody Bellinger is such a f***ing stud. Even when he's not hitting the long ball, he's so productive (2 BBs and a single that's scored the lone run of the game so far). Also, apparently he's in the top 20 in the entire MLB for average sprint speeds this season, per StatCast: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sprint_speed_leaderboard
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Did anyone know our Brandon Morrow is on the Dodgers, hes been lights out in an albeit small sample size of 11 innings.

ChrisS Verified Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Miguel Montero confirms that he's the whiniest player in the bigs Such a goof. A couple of days after WS game 7 he whined about not being given a big enough role on the team. He got to be part of one of the greatest fairy tale stories in sports, so he should shut his mouth.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 this gon be good ""When you point fingers you're a selfish player. We have another catcher that throws everyone out." - Rizzo

bowld Verified Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 How are the Angels better than us? Their lineup sucks and pitching staff does too. WTF
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 How are the Angels better than us? Their lineup sucks and pitching staff does too. WTF Easy, they don't play Baltimore as often as us!
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Holy s***, lmao. Is that the fastest a team has ever cut ties with a player to squash a beef in the clubhouse?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 this gon be good ""When you point fingers you're a selfish player. We have another catcher that throws everyone out." - Rizzo That's awesome if Rizzo actually said that. Players like Montero need to know their role and embrace it. When you're not a star, on a team full of them, shut your mouth and do your job.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Holy s***, lmao. Is that the fastest a team has ever cut ties with a player to squash a beef in the clubhouse? Awesome. Clubhouse hierarchy does and should exist. If you're not in, you're in the way.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 To be fair, Jake Arrieta is embarrassingly slow to the plate and all those SB's are on him and he didn't field his position in that game. Arrieta has one of the highest SB% in baseball against him over the past 4 years. Contreras's arm certainly helps, but he isn't going to throw out all those guys. Montero's biggest fail though is thinking that CS% is a reflection on his abilities. It's like pitcher wins - it's a farce and shouldn't be used to judge a catcher. They should record the time from the point it hits the catchers glove to the time it hits the middle infielders glove and have leader boards based on catchers average time. That doesn't factor in accuracy, but is still much more reflective of the catchers ability to throw out runners. He got all pissed off because old school and/or casual fans will be judging him based on his s***** CS% and ran his mouth. Jays should sign him and teach him advanced statistics. LH catcher who can hit. We could use that.

He's pointing fingers at Arrieta saying he's too slow to the plate (which is true) and in the process absolving himself of blame for not throwing out any baserunners. Funny enough, I just read an article which says that according to Statcast's catcher pop times, Miguel Montero is second worst in the league in that category, so he's not exactly helping himself in any way.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 They should record the time from the point it hits the catchers glove to the time it hits the middle infielders glove and have leader boards based on catchers average time. That's called "pop time" and coaches have been recording it with stopwatches for decades. That's how 1st base coaches decide whether or not to give a baserunner the green light to steal, you see them all the time giving time readings to the runner. The runner knows what kind of pop time he can personally beat.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Bottom line is when you're a journeyman catcher in your mid-30s, you really shouldn't talk s*** about the staff ace, even if he's in the wrong. It kinda reminds me of Shea Hillenbrand, another player who clearly overstepped the mark and was quickly run out of baseball.

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Miguel Montero for back up catcher please. Him or Stephen Vogt would be great. It probably makes too much sense to actually happen though.

Funny enough, I just read an article which says that according to Statcast's catcher pop times, Miguel Montero is second worst in the league in that category, so he's not exactly helping himself in any way. ??? Montero says "it really sucked because the stolen bases go to me and when you really look at it, the pitcher doesn't give me any time" He's lashing out because he's upset that some old school or casual fan (or Dave Stewart) is going to look at those stats and say "yeah OK, Miggy can't throw nobody out". If he just acknowledges that CS% is s*** - correctly shrugs it off to Arrieta can't hold runners - then he doesn't say anything and he's still on a ML team. That said - obviously he needs to look at his own pop time and acknowledge he isn't a good thrower and when it's him and Jake together, people be running wild and there's nothing they can do.
