For years, folks have complained baseball is doing its best to strip players of their individuality and their ability to express their personalities and enthusiasm for playing the game. Some of that might be changing -- at least for a weekend.

That's because Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan is reporting that MLB and the union have agreed to turn August 25-27 into "Players Weekend." What does that entail? Evidently relaxed uniform rules.

Here's what Passan reported:

Major League Baseball will relax its uniform rules for a weekend later this season, allowing players to put nicknames on the back of their jerseys, wear fluorescent-colored shoes and personalize a patch paying tribute to someone instrumental in their development, according to a memo obtained by Yahoo Sports.

There are a lot of questions to be answered about this weekend, including whether a team like the New York Yankees -- who, obviously do not wear names on their jerseys -- will partake. Given that both sides, the owners and players agreed to these terms, it seems unlikely that teams will have discretion over if and how they participate in the weekend's festivities.

It's worth noting that the NBA tried the whole nickname-on-jerseys bit a few years back. MLB's attempt seems to have the same end goal in mind: selling more merchandise. We'll see if their plan works -- and if we can go the whole weekend without a silly controversy.

Plouffe is probably Boston bound unless they trade for a 3B or call up Devers. Plouffe can atleast play a semi-competant third. Sandoval has been an absolute train wreck. What a terrible contract.

Harvey, Walker to be out several weeks (plus Syndergaard update)

Matt Harvey was diagnosed with a stress injury in his right shoulder and Neil Walker was diagnosed with a left hamstring tear on Thursday. Both will miss several weeks, the Mets said.

Harvey left Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Cubs after just four innings with what the club called "arm fatigue." Harvey's velocity was noticeably down throughout the start. The right-hander is 4-3 with a 5.25 ERA in 13 starts this season, his first after undergoing thoracic outlet syndrome during the offseason. He received an MRI and a CT scan Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. "It's not a fracture, it's not a bruise," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said of the injury. "The bone can inflame. It's sort of in that niche, between fracture and bruise."

Walker pulled up lame and collapsed near first base trying to leg out a bunt on Wednesday, holding his hamstring. The second baseman has been one of New York's most productive hitters of late, batting .319 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs since May 1

.

Alderson also said the club doesn't expect Noah Syndergaard to begin throwing for "at least four weeks." Syndergaard hasn't pitched since April 30 because of a partially torn right lat.

How about Jay Bruce?

Chris Sale shutting the Phillies out through 7 but Boston hasn't scored either... Edited by G-Snarls

And the Phillies surprisingly beat Sale..

Sox fans should be angry... this is a game they should've won.. especially considering they're going to get trounced by Houston this weekend, a team that is far superior to the Red Sox.

Still got Rays/Tigers going on.. a Rays loss and the Jays are only a game back, which would be shocking considering how far back the Jays were in the wild card back in April..

f***ing Rays. Tigers really need to DFA Francisco Rodriguez.

Didn't I read that he's been complaining about his usage? Should just focus on trying not to suck when he gets the chance to pitch.

Fricking Rodriguez just about cost me my sports select ticket, which I rarely play, and now as long as Colorado wins I'm a winner!
