jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Just 8,971 to watch the Rays beat the White Sox... where are the fans in Tampa? The team's contening--yet they're being avoided like the plague.

Both have horrible attendance though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 They really should use this as motivation to change back to the Spiders. They currently have the ugliest uniforms in baseball and being named "Indians" is pretty lame. Spiders are way cooler than Indians. A rebranding (with a name change) with the Cavs Gold, Navy and Wine colour scheme would not be very "spider" but it would sell well IMO.

I love the chief wahoo logo, reminds of the movie Major League, good times.

I don't really know what he was expecting - he hasn't yet been as good as anticipated, he's on a very expensive contract, and Boston is a major market where scrutiny is always going to be high for sports stars.

Maybe Boston outbid everyone by 30 or 40M But it does seem like he made a poor choice for himself otherwise He doesn't seem to cope well with so much fan and media scutiny and he picked one of the two roughest places to play and in the toughest division to boot

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I haven't been paying attention to the Red Sox a lot but damn, Mookie Betts is hitting only .260? I think the Red Sox are a big danger down the stretch though.

Seems un-Cubs like to take him off their draft board if he's a top talent that might fall because of this.

Seems un-Cubs like to take him off their draft board if he's a top talent that might fall because of this. He actually seems like a great prospect. Seems like a 2nd round talent, maybe 1st. Teams love lefties with command and broad stuff. Heimlich is listed at 6-1, 197, a left-handed hitter and thrower born February 3rd, 1996. His fastball has ticked up since high school, increasing from 85-88 then up to 89-92 now, with occasional touches at 93-94. The pitch plays up due to his sharp command and contrast with his secondary pitches. The change-up was his best pitch two years ago but he’s since refined his curveball, to the point that some scouts like it better than the change. He throws all three pitches for quality strikes, maintains his mechanics well, and has a good health record. He hasn’t given up a home run this year and has been touched for long balls only four times in his entire college career. Heimlich showed above-average command of his three-pitch mix, working both sides of the plate, changing speeds and sequence while retiring the first eleven batters. His fastball (88-to-90 mph (T92) held velocity throughout the start working with late arm-side tail and some occasional cut action to the glove side. The changeup (76-to-79 mph) was deceptive, coming with the same arm speed as the fastball, allowing Heimlich to pull the string and have it dive under the bat path. The curveball became a more prominent secondary the second and third time through the lineup, with tight 1-to-7 shape, tight spin, and sharp downer action. He threw both off-speed pitches to hitters on either side of the plate and in any count for strikes.

Yeah, from what I'm reading he's probably a top-50 pick if this doesn't break. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Twitter seems generally outraged at the idea of him ever playing again, but you have to think some team will see this as an opportunity, especially if he starts slipping down the board. Probably signable for well under slot too.

Just based on talent, I'm not sure if he would be that exciting at 61, unless they think he can add velocity. Maybe if he tumbles to 99.
