Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Edwin looks like piss, good lord. Contact rate has fallen off a cliff and his strikeout and whiff rates are through the roof. Same as last April... I'll chill on that.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Marcell Ozuna hit a bomb at the Trop last night. I don't think I've ever seen a right handed hitter hit one that far in Tampa, look at where it lands! I have no idea how that is "only" 468 feet. http://m.mlb.com/video/v1349325983/miatb-ozuna-hits-his-longest-homer-in-statcast-era/?affiliateId=clubMEGAMENU

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 On a breaking ball that clearly just got away from him. Ya. Stupid f***ing call by the ump.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Same as last April... I'll chill on that. It's a lucky thing the Indians have depth in the lineup--because Edwin isn't providing much help. 40% K rate in his ABs (33% K rate on his plate appearances).. despite Morales struggling as well, the Jays may have made the right move bailing on Edwin now.. considering how fast he's regressing. And it's showing in the standings--Cleveland is trying to hold off everyone other than Kansas City in the division, and just lost Kluber for 10 days or more due to back issues..

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Locked him up to 3 years too. Third year is going to sting.

Wow good thing the Jays don't have these problems to deal with. Your post made me feel so much better about the state of the team I cheer for.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Third year is going to sting. Team willprobanly be s*** by then We might not care much that year
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Team willprobanly be s*** by then We might not care much that year If we retool now we might not actually be s*** in 2019. Sometimes you need to punt a year or 2 so you aren't s*** for 10+ years. Especially when we know the payroll can be quite healthy.

Especially when we know the payroll can be quite healthy. This rhetoric again. If the team is s*** for 10 years that means it was led by a completely incompetent front office. Not because of a retool that didn't take place a few years prior. As far Morales is concerned his $11M in the final year of a contract in 2019 should be the least of our concerns. Morales can be easily jettisoned if need be. Similar to how San Diego dumped Upton to the Jays.

metafour Verified Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 It's like every April people forget how a baseball season works. Except that Edwin has shown clear decline in contact and increasing whiff rate for ~4 straight seasons now. Yeah, he's not likely to remain a -0.1 WAR player all year obviously...the question is how much and how quickly his obvious decline will hit him.
bzapple Verified Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Locked him up to 3 years too. That's the main thing... a bad body DH in his mid-30s could tank at any time. Hopefully he pulls it together but if he loses too much bat speed then he could crater and end up DFA'd/released before this contract is up.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 We need to hire the White Sox hitting coach...their players can't miss a fastball down the middle...no matter what count it's in

Or a farm system being pillaged by the previous regime which is our current problem with mutiple unmovable contracts. In a perfect world you don't give a 33-year old DH a three year deal so you have to pay another team to take him. Avoiding that situation all together would have been great. I'm not saying our current front office can't make this team competitive in other ways but basically they were shot in the foot on day one and still have to run the race.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Fun little quiz from MLB. http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/05/03/225626530/guess-the-mlb-game-based-on-the-box-score Just 8 for me.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I got 8 as well. Got my years mixed up on one of the easier ones and then had no clue on the 12 inning game.
43211234 Verified Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I got 9. Twice I got lucky on a complete guess though.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Got 8, guessed the wrong team for the high scoring game and had no clue about the Pittsburgh game against the Braves
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Nine. Missed number six and completely guessed correctly on number eight.
