Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Records indicate the City of Chicago paid $18.8M in overtime pay as a result of the Cubs world series run. Wow
SouthOfThe6ix Verified Member Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 That's probably a career ender. Am I the only one that was surprised he didn't end up in Atlanta with Dickey? Hopefully he's able to rebound from this injury, though. Never want to see a player end his career because of an injury.

If they wouldn't guarantee him an MLB roster spot then why not go where you want to go instead.

I guess I figured they'd come as a pair based on fear of pass balls from Dickey's knuckleball. Maybe their confident in Flowers or Suzuki's ability to catch it.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Indians won't have Kipnis until almost May--Edwin's going to have to carry this team on his back.. And in addition, Cody Anderson is headed for TJS...
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Looks like Kyle Kendrick's making the Opening Day roster:

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Reds in full tank mode. Joey Votto might walk 150+ times this year.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Seriously WTF is wrong with Joey Votto that he refuses to allow a trade. If I were him I'd be glad to go ANYWHERE else.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Looks like the Reds are gearing up for a good year What on earth? Votto get the heck outta there man.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 God Cinci must be an awesome place to live if this does not make him want to accept a trade out. It's not. It sucks as does the rest of the state. He must just be comfortable there and with the organization. Or maybe he doesn't want to have to move his family or something.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 I didn't think it's just him. The Reds want a significant return. Not many teams are jumping at the opurtunity to empty the farm for 33-year old who is signed to monster contract through 2024. His market is extremely limited to a couple teams who could even afford him. And he will probably have to DH at some point. Has already had injury problems.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 As great as Votto is, I don't think any team wants to touch that contract, and with good reason.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Nate Karns has officially been named the Royals' fifth starter.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Long-term extension for Tim Anderson. 6/25 for pre-free agent years with team options on his first two free agent years that could take it to 8/50.5.

Kinda seems like an unnecessary commitment to a player who has an unusually high chance of busting.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Kinda seems like an unnecessary commitment to a player who has an unusually high chance of busting. A bit surprised at the commitment. I guess him possibly being a plus defender at short as well as a plus runner gives him a high enough floor even if the bat doesn't develop how they hope it will.

Projected for 1.9 fWAR, even after posting garbage K and BB rates in his 100 game debut. Projected for a paltry 82 wRC+ and should still easily be worth that contract. He also, of course, has Jean Segura or Jonathan Villar type "surprise, I don't suck!!!" upside because he's black and a racially/genetically gifted fast-twitch track star athlete.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Joey Votto is mental. Thats why he's a hitting savant. But that's also why he probably prefers to go about his craft in total obscurity like a mad scientist working alone in his basement. I think coming home would be the last thing he wants. He'd have a whole country on his shoulders and I don't know if that's his personality. Because you know him so well right?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Ya but he's not latino so he's not a natural baseball player. That's true. He needs to continue to work hard to escape has natural inclination to play football, just like our own Anthony Alford. It will never come easy for Tim.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Votto is clearly mental. He's been through a lot in the past. Once again, you clearly know him on a personal level, so you know exactly what he's thinking and where he wants to play based on some articles you read years ago.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Pretty comical that in 2017 people who once battled depression are labelled as "clearly mental"
