Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 What was the cause? Speed? If it was in the morning he shouldn't have been drunk. Don't even talk about drunk around here. You'll get stomped on pretty quick.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 on you can see two pictures, one of which has a body
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Oh man. Another death of a pitcher in baseball. How do these things keep happening
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Awful. This happens way too frequently. RIP to both men.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 When will these kids learn about driving under the influence.. So sad. Ventura, Fernandez, Taveras all within the last couple of years.

I mean, I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I liked the guy or his constant bitching and headhunting but no one deserves to have this happen. He was a young guy with extreme talent and was definitely taken from us far too soon. A truly horrible day for baseball. RIP Yordano.

This might sound cold, but If he was driving under the influence like some reports I have little sympathy. Perhaps no one deserves this, we all make mistakes, but it could have been avoided with smarts and if he's going to crash I'd rather it just be him than striking someone else. Just my opinion.

Yeah I don't have a ton of sympathy. This guy showed violent disregard for other players and a s*****, arrogant attitude on many occasions.

canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Odd question but what is the speed limit there? I went to St.lucia they drink and drive like its nothing. They go as fast as the pot holes let them it's very strange
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Same as Andy Marte. Speed, alcohol and the road Is Ang Passan's source?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 I agree. Forget putting yourself in danger by drinking and driving. How about everyone else on the road? People that engage in that kind of behaviour don't really seem to care much about others too much. But I'm supposed to be heart broken and sympathetic? Completely avoidable and makes me angry cause stupidity takes another life.

They go as fast as the pot holes let them it's very strange DR is the most dangerous place to drive in the Western Hemisphere British foreign office advice for travelers to the DR: "Although most major roads are reasonably good, general standards of driving are poor. Drivers weave from lane to lane and rarely signal. Many vehicles are in a state of disrepair. Unlit vehicles - especially motorbikes - are common. Where possible you should avoid driving outside the main cities at night. Road accidents are frequent, especially during holiday periods like Christmas when drink-driving related incidents are common."
Maine Jays Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 You're acting like a real Dickhead today How does speaking the truth about someone, alive or dead, make that person a dick head? Everyone becomes a saint after they die. They may have beaten their wife and kids, kicked every dog that crossed their path, had multiple affairs, stole from their parents, etc, but once they kick it, you're no longer allowed to say one bad word about them. BS If someone is a dick when they're alive, they're still a dick when they're dead. The only difference is they can't be a dick anymore.

Athote didn't say anything about Ventura being a saint now that he's dead. Some just think its uncouth to speak ill of the dead so soon. I'm not in that category, but its not some horrible failing to hold that opinion.

I think what some people are feeling falls somewhere in between. He's not automatically a saint, but we also don't hate his guts and want to piss on his grave. What I feel is that it's terrible that he's dead, but I'm not going to ignore or hide from the fact that he did this to himself by making a stupid decision and endangering himself and others. Makes me angry that this is still so common. This isn't the 50's where people didn't really know the dangers. This is just being dumb.

This is the around baseball thread. I don't mean any disrespect to Ventura if that's what you are insinuating. There wasn't any 'hate' involved in the comment either, just a casual observation.

Nafro Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Sounds like Southern Ontario with more motorbikes. Yes this is a f***ing ridiculous comment...as is some of the other comments. Two young men are dead; we certainly have no right to do anything other then express sympathy to their families and friends for their loss. Maybe wait until tomorrow for the holier than thou critique of unfortunate decisions. I'm glad none of you made those same poor decisions when you were younger; while being lucky enough to not have similar results. I certainly can't say that.

Again, what I said had absolutely nothing to do with Ventura or Marte. It was simply a comment on a striking similarity. My thoughts are with their families and friends. Take your own advice and grieve in your own way without taking a 'holier than thou' stance and telling others how to do so.
