CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 What are the rules for how long you have to wait until you trade a player? A FA who signs a major league contract has an automatic "no trade" right thru June 15th. The player can waive this right, but if he does he can be traded only for cash and/or player contracts with a max aggregate value of $50,000.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 ... without the player's consent. does Pearce or Morales want to play for Toronto that badly? or would they be content for many teams just to pick up their new contract? (yeah, it wouldn't look good on the Jays to sign a guy and deal him, but it's not impossible.) Anything is possible. But it won't look good to sign someone and turn around and ask him if they could trade you somewhere else. That's a good way to piss off the MLBPA and its not exactly a good way to conduct business period.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Sign a solid OF defender. Play 2 man outfield with Pillar + 2 DHs That would be pretty awesome if we could get Keirmaier, and put him and Pillar out in the OF by themselves. Then maybe we add another infielder between 2nd and short. Probably wouldn't work, but it would be fun to watch.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Why would it not be allowed? You can't sign and trade a player in the MLB... this isn't the NBA, bro.

SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 How could the Jays fit in EE? Build a time machine. Go back to the day before the signing on Morales. Don't sign Morales. Sign EE instead.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 The Jays chose Morales over Edwin once EE rejected their offer. It's over guys. Let's move on.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Split them at 1B & DH, seems pretty obvious. It's still a fit.

Until he Signs elsewhere he could come back. So far we have replaces JB and Saunders with Pearce and Morales. EE still fits quite nicely.

EE still fits quite nicely. I agree, we still have space for Edwin, if the budget is there. Pearce is a bench/utility player, who should get around 100 games for us. Sign Edwin for 1b/dh along with Morales, sign a solid outfielder and let Pearce fill in as needed.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Split them at 1B & DH, seems pretty obvious. It's still a fit. lol why do you keep holding out hope EE will be signed? Makes no sense for him to come back.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 lol why do you keep holding out hope EE will be signed? Makes no sense for him to come back. He loves Toronto?
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 He loves Toronto? And many other reasons. Can't blame a guy for looking for a payday, but Jays have a good chance at the playoffs and he likes the city.

It's more along the lines of Morales and Pearce are replacing EE and we still have to find replacements for Bautista and Saunders. Unless your ok with Morales is playing in the OF. People should be prepared for Edwin leaving...cause it's gonna happen

CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 What do you think are the chances that Smoak is not on the Jays 25-man opening day roster? (DL aside) ... 3-5%?

CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 0 percent Hurl and this regime believe in Smoak and his flyballbto HR ratio and Donaldson & Tulo like throwing to the big target at 1b ... ? (in the 9th inning) haha

The Jays FO said he isn't coming back unless he takes a ridiculous (3/45?) team friendly deal. Which obviously isn't going to happen.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Jay Bruce. Lol Bruce is 100 percent becoming a Jay and I believe they will give up a prospect for him too maybe Pompey or something
