Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Jose for 2 years over Fowler long term
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 We only get a pick if he signs before the draft, which is looking more and more unlikely. I know I said he would wait it out till then and got roasted on here for saying that just a couple days ago!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I know I said he would wait it out till then and got roasted on here for saying that just a couple days ago! You didn't get roasted... I said it wouldn't happen, I think I was the only one who responded, I could be wrong.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 We only get a pick if he signs before the draft, which is looking more and more unlikely. You know it's not the Rule 5 draft... Right?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Jose for 2 years over Fowler long term Batz and Pagen on short term deals, jettison Smoak,Upton and Zeke and bring up Pompey! Have a open competition for the Kids in spring training for the open spots at catcher, and Pompeys fourth outfielder spot! Have also a open competition for the Kids at the 5th starter spot ... And with Lirano in the pen we have a lefty and long relief and what only one open spot? Could work
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 You didn't get roasted... I said it wouldn't happen, I think I was the only one who responded, I could be wrong. Sorry spank I wasn't singling ya out! I like you, maybe it was all the Hate from days gone by of late!!! Lol
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 You know it's not the Rule 5 draft... Right? He's talking about waiting until after the draft, the rule 4 draft in June... pick compensation dissolves after that.
metafour Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Bautista x2 > overrated Fowler What exactly makes Fowler overrated? He walks, makes solid contact, average power, plus base-runner. The fact that he is a player driven by walk-rate instead of BABIP strongly suggests that he is likely to age well as a hitter (unlike someone like Carl Crawford who never walked and therefore became useless once the legs wore out). Fowler left Coors Field and actually became a better hitter.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 He's talking about waiting until after the draft, the rule 4 draft in June... pick compensation dissolves after that. Ya, I know which draft he meant. I was giving an idiotic response to an idiotic idea.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I'd be uncomfortable with three guaranteed years. Maybe year two could be a player option and the third year a club option or buyout? If Bautista has a rebound season he could decline the option and chase a bigger multi year deal without a pick attached to him next winter. If he ends up struggling through a couple injury prone seasons, we effectively end up paying back some of the money he missed out on by being on such a team friendly deal for the past few years - and one of our all time greats gets to retire as a Blue Jay.

OF: Fowler OF: Pillar OF: Pearce/potential platoon 1B: Bautista 2B: Travis SS: Tulo 3B: Donaldson C: Martin DH: Morales Bench: Upton Backup Catcher Smoak (yuck) Barney There's a chance, but Bautista would have to lower his standards. Maybe, something like this could make it possible? Bautista - 2/35 (17.5 AAV) Fowler - 4/64 (16 AAV) Even then, I'm not sure it happens. Where is the payroll at right now? I'd imagine this would put them over 160M.

You would have to backload them say give Fowler 12 and JB 14 next year. Even then you leave no money for the pen or a backup catcher unless you can unload Smoak.
Driveof85 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Most Orioles fans would probably decide they like him just fine after a half season with a 380 OBP and 20 bombs True lol
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I wouldn't mind then signing Saunders back to platoon with Upton/ get some starts at 1st base. If it only costs $10M per on a 2 year deal there is good value in that. He had such a good first half that you have to believe the talent is still there. No one's numbers drop that much unless there is an injury.

Maybe buying low on Tyson Ross to be in the BP, though not really sure about the cost there or if he'd accept that.

Driveof85 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 The disrespect for Jose is pretty hilarious. The guy is one year removed from a 40HR, .250/.377/.536 season. Walk rates are still through the roof. He had some injuries last year and still put up a very, very good offensive year. Shatkins will clearly bring him back as a primary DH if an offer is made. Yes, bringing back one of the greatest players in franchise history on a short-term deal when he is still very capable of putting up excellent numbers is absolutely nauseating. The hive is at it again. Preach on brother! JB is an icon who will have a great 2017, 30/90 at least

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I wonder if Rogers gives them an extra 5M to spend if they sign Bautista back. Surely there is some additional value from the name that the Blue Jays and Rogers would benefit by.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I don't understand why anyone would give Saunders a multi year deal. His knee could go at anytime. Unless the second year was non guaranteed no thanks.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 lol LOL that is f***ing perfect
