It most certainly is not substantially better if you believe that Moncada is the superior talent to all involved, with Kopech being another high upside play.

Moncada's strikeouts are troubling considering the value that they placed on him. Prospects with extremely high K rates have a pretty high bust potential. I don't agree with the common sentiment that he's a sure bet to succeed in the majors. Kopech is getting a lot of hype from the AFL stint, but it wasn't long ago that most evaluators saw him as a reliever. His poor secondary offerings still make that the strongest possibility.

The White Sox are incredibly stupid if that is true. That offer is substantially better.

How is it significantly better? Giolito is either hurt, or his stuff has gone backwards big time. Robles is in A-ball and can't touch Moncada anyway. Is Reynaldo Lopez a star? Probably not.

"Poor secondary offerings"...he struck out more batters/9 this year than Giolito ever has at any level. "Reliever, no secondary pitch"...sounds like Syndergaard.

I'm not saying he or Kopech are slam dunks either, but I'm arguing that it's definitely possible and defensible that they viewed Moncada as a generational talent with loud tools across the board like many other scouts have, and thus chose to go with someone with considerably higher upside than all of the Nats' prospects along with Kopech who also represents a high upside player, allegedly undeveloped secondary offerings or not. I don't think anyone here is saying that either of these guys are sure bets to become superstars, but the raw talent and ability that they possess give them a big edge over the other prospects being offered.

Blair literally knows nothing about baseball. It's laughable that Rogers paid to fly him out tomthe winter meetings. The dude knows less than my sister does about baseball.

He's also forgetting Luis Basabe and Victor Diaz. They're both kinda interesting too.

his lack of command is more concerning.

He can turn into Syndergaard, or he can turn into the broken version of Daniel Bard

Did they just give up the 62 mill they paid too get moncada too?

so they gave up what will be a killer player and 3 other good player PLUS 62 Mill?

Money is irrelevant here considering how cheap Sale is getting paid. Plus, they are the Red Sox.

Well they payed 62 mil for that great prospect, so it's one or the other.

I dont care the situation. Its a stupid to pay a top prospect 62 million and he never throws a ball or hits a ball for your team . and .. also give up 3 more good prospects. Moncada is a keeper, a player who will likely be a franchise player

It seemed like he struck out in every at-bat, but he did actually hit the ball a few times last year.

It's not stupid when you have a deep farm and deep pockets. They are basically investing 33.33MM per year for Sale (Sale's salary + Moncada) + 3 prospects to complete the trade. That's pretty much the going rate for the best pitchers in baseball right now.

but, you have to admit. This makes anything but a WS title a bust for them. They sold lots for this and anything short is a failure

They will probably end up with a title since their window is so long

This was a good laugh back in the day. Unfortunately this years Red Sox are very much for real. Just such a young exciting core of great position players with a great staff. f*** I hate Boston.
