Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Author Posted May 11, 2023 The AT@T didn't hold it's teeth today, Noh shot a 60. Scott shot a 63, my survivor pick. Actually, my alternate pick Hughes shot well.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Heck of a tourney, great leaderboard. Was there for the 1st round, picked up Connors at #8 and followed him to the end of the round. Was great to see.

At least he's going out in the morning tomorrow. Oh, he birdied 2 of the last 3 holes... cool, feel a little better. Woohoo... Hoge went low, noice. Edited June 2, 2023 by Spanky99

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 I guess I won't have to wear my LUV and Let LIV shirt on Sunday. But I am going to the Sunday round

I'm buried right now, but am interested in understanding what this means. Anyone have a second to provide me with the recap on what this means? Do the LIV golfers still get their $$$? Will the PGA players now similar $$$ too? Part of me was really hoping to see the LIV golfers get f***ed over and regret "taking that dirty Saudi money and selling their soles", but it looks like that won't be a thing now?

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I wonder if they start the RBC Canadian Open tomorrow given the air quality tomorrow? They cancelled racing at Woodbine tomorrow.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Wow!!!!!!! The "bat toss" and everything.... I'm tearing up
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 Canadian fans showed their lack of class. It was so bad that I was cheering for Tommy...and I had a wager on Nick. Just complete ignorance
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 I mean, if you’re gonna win it on a playoff hole, may as well do it with a 72 foot eagle putt.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 Canadian fans showed their lack of class. It was so bad that I was cheering for Tommy...and I had a wager on Nick. Just complete ignorance What happened
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 What happened It started pretty tame. I mean it was 25K in fans at one hole and probably 24,500 were just cheering. When Fleetwood hit it into the rough on his drive on 18 needing the birdie to win, it was just a lot of yelling things like "use your putter" one guy yelled "Geoff will still suck your dick after you lose this" which is probably a reference which 99% of the people including Fleetwood wouldn't get. Then when he hit it short on the first playoff hole, it was right in front of me. One guy when he was addressing the ball says "this is why you never win you pussy" another threw a pine cone to distract him. Fleetwood's caddy had to do a "this is our livelihood show some respect. On the second playoff Taylor's caddy said "cheer Nick as loud as you can but don't be disrespectful to Tommy" Then it was just a complete disrespect to the volunteers, which for me is one of the golden rules of sport, never disrespect a volunteer. Running out on to the fairway to get a better view of green, when 18 was going to be used again if they tied. One guy just stood there saying get security. He went behind the barriers after security came. Then he did the same thing in the 4th playoff. Giving everyone the finger when security escorted him off. There also were a bunch of people sharing what was happening on the green as they watched the broadcast because those on the fairway cannot see the green. Had a blast there though.

Okay that kind of helps explain why the security guard levelled Adam Hadwin. The boys in black must have been on edge. Sounds like the Canadian crowds would/will love LIV golf...

You really hate to see that kind of behaviour. While I don't doubt that every tournament has its share of bad apples who verbally abuse the athletes, it certainly doesn't excuse it or make it any less embarrassing. I do think if it'd been Tommy against almost any other non-Canadian player in that field, the crowds would've been behind him for his first PGA win - especially with him being such a likeable dude. Hopefully he understands it was not personal, but maybe he thinks twice about returning to this tournament in the future. It's a goddamn shame, too, because it's hard enough as it is to get the elites to commit to this event, especially with its current place on the PGA schedule, sandwiched between two of the biggest tournaments and right before one of the four majors. It wouldn't take a lot for some players to completely stop supporting this tournament altogether and having it quickly become a bottom of the barrel event on the schedule played by a bunch of scrubs. For what it's worth, on the broadcast you couldn't hear any of the horrible jeers and Jim Nantz and co. were actually praising the fans for the raucous "Ryder Cup-like" atmosphere. In any sport, players should always be treated with respect and fans that are incapable of keeping themselves in check should just stay home and yell at their TVs. It's such a travesty that Fleetwood had to endure that type of abuse from the crowds, even if it was a small vocal minority of f***ing losers.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 In case anyone missed it, here's the insane moment where Winnipeg's Nick Taylor makes the 72-foot walk-off eagle putt to win on the fourth playoff hole over Tommy Fleetwood. First Canadian to win the Canadian Open in 69 nice years.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 Well done, Clark, Congratz! I mean, I cried a bit for this kid, but I tear for Fowler. So many emotions. lol
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I don't watch much golf these days but that seemed like a bit of a wacky course
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I don't watch much golf these days but that seemed like a bit of a wacky course Definitely. It should not have been the site of a US Open event. A non-major event, sure.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 I don't watch much golf these days but that seemed like a bit of a wacky course The concept of holding a major in a big city with transit available for it is a great concept and a green initiative. Canadian Open at Jane and Sheppard was fantastic. Saw a bunch of teens there without Mom or Dad (also they gave practice round tickets to under privileged youth from the area). However U.S open dropped the ball with the members getting so many of the tickets. Quicker terms Golf has taken a popularity hit and they need less old white men at events
