HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 "Gurriel has played all four infield positions and in left field during his brief career, mostly recently getting a chance at shortstop. Badler doubts he has the range to stick at the position in the majors, though he could be a plus defender at third base. There are some cons, however, as Longenhagen tweets that Gurriel has received some “mixed” reports from scouts — he has a long swing and may be a “bit of a project for 23.” Concerns notwithstanding, Gurriel will certainly receive a bonus well into the eight-figure range. Many teams will check in, though the Astros stand out as an obvious candidate since they have already signed Gurriel’s older brother Yulieski. The younger Gurriel will require probably a year or two of minor league seasoning, which could give Houston give to figure out where exactly it would fit him into a lineup already stocked with established and young talent (Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman, A.J. Reed and Yulieski himself) at Gurriel’s potential positions. Yulieski has spoken in the past about playing with his brother under ideal circumstances, though he acknowledged the difficulties in such an arrangement given how the two are at such different stages of their careers." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/lourdes-gurriel-declared-free-agent.html
Gary Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Who is this guy? Is he any good? Is he MLB ready?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 This guy is gonna be our Ben Zobrist
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 If this is true, what a great (and unexpected) signing!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 7 Years. For 3 million/ season seems like a decent super utility guy. Not a ton of risk and decent upside. I like it.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I've seen guys on here predicting we would sign him. No idea who the hell he is though lol is this actually "big news"?
Gary Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 7 years...impressive. Succession plan for JD?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Holy f***! What type of hitter is he?
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 MLB ready right away? Or AAA to start?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Holy f***! What type of hitter is he? Unlike his older brother, he’ll require some more time in the minor leagues before surfacing at the big league level. Gurriel is a career .277/.362/.426 hitter in Cuba and slashed an outstanding .344/.407/.560 in 245 plate appearances in his final season in Cuba — the 2015-16 campaign.-mlbtr
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Holy f***! What type of hitter is he? Decent OBP not much power. I think I read he's more of a utility player than an everyday player but for only 3 million/season thats fine.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Holy s***! Completely out of the blue
Gary Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Probably signed with Jays because of Trump.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Well this is cool. 7 years, 22 million. I assume he starts off in the minors.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 This is fantastic news. Great start to the offseason.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Nicely done Shapkins. Like the move a lot. Adds talent to the org.
Gary Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Nicely done Shapkins. Like the move a lot. Adds talent to the org. Shapkins sure are putting their bite into the Jays org. I like it.
Maine Jays Verified Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Nicely done Shapkins. Like the move a lot. Adds talent to the org. And only cost $$. None of which was mine. Shatkins seem willing to take advantage of every possible avenue (taking Liriano's contract to gain McGuire +)
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Nothing to see here. Powerless utility guy who can't speak english
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 make up your mind guys, is it Stakins or Shapkins
