What are the chances of seeing Votto and Inciarte in a Jays uniform next year?

New to this board and excited by these rumours. If anyone who is smarter than me can chime in with their two cents it would be appreciated. If Shapiro and Atkins can make this happen, I'll be super happy.

Probably about 0%

I can't see Shapiro bring interested in paying the financial ot prospect price for either player.

I don't know the exact amount but isn't Votto currently making more or around the same type of money Edwin wants? If so why would Shapiro gives Atkins approval to give up top prospects for and maybe for Votto more when they can possibly re-sign Edwin.

If they are taking Votto's entire contract, they won't be giving up any top prospects. Also, the Jays don't really have any "top" prospects.

well if it will make you happy then the percentage goes up.

P.S. they aren't rumours cause you wrote it.

John Manuel predicted up to six Jays in their top 100.

I don't think they'll pay the money for Votto, or Stroman for Inciarte, so close to 0.

I don't know, it's not like Votto isn't providing good value on his contract so far, and is almost a year younger. I'd rather pay 25M / year for Votto than 20M / year for EE, even if the back end of the contract is a little uglier due to length. Aside from his injury plagued 2014, Votto's worst year in the last 8 years produced more WAR than EE's best year.

Thing is Abom... we don't have to give anything up for EE, we'd love Votto but... the cost?

and Josh Norris says 8 Yankees. With Baltimore's 1 in the mix 15 of the top 100 are done. 85 spots done and the Rockies, Dodgers and Braves have 18 of those on lockdown. Good thing the Red Sox are getting shutout this year

Well, the Reds are rebuilding and have a low payroll. With 22M next year and 25M the years after, they may want to get out from under the contract. Certainly there'd be some acquisition cost, but dunno what it would be.

True, if EE walks, it's possible.

Just one guy Grant, lets wait.

I was just quoting him. They had 3 in their most recent list (Greene, Alford, SRF), but Bichette and Vlad Jr. seem to have made quite an impression since then. Zeuch was the final possibility.

Reds would have to eat at least 40 percent of that contract. Vottos great but he would cripple us

Would you still feel that way if you knew Rogers was committed to $180M opening day payroll indefinitely starting in 2017?

The minimum commitment for Votto is $177M over 7 years (final year of 2024 is a $20M with $7M buyout), so averages right around $25M per. If Reds eat 40 %, you are getting one of the top hitters in MLB for only $15M. He could turn out to be like Beltran, Winfield, Molitor, etc. who were/are productive up to age 40. If I am the Reds, I would rather go ahead and keep him rather than pay $10M a year to have him play for someone else. I thought teams only did that to unload players who were underperforming (like BJ Upton, Kemp, Wells, etc.) BUT if Reds really want out from the salary commitment, I think you may not need to give up much in a trade to acquire him. It would be like the Jays did with Liriano. If the Reds are motivated and the Jays don't do it, some other big market team will. The only thing is Votto has full trade veto power and may, like teammate Phillips, use it.

I can't really see Votto blocking a trade here. Home country, legit WS contender, etc.

I'd love to have him here like most but the Reds wouldn't trade the face of their franchise for salary relief. Stroman, Travis or Pillar are likely the asking price and it obviously makes no sense for us to meet those demands.

What? If Pillar is the asking price you have to listen to how much of that salary they are willing to eat and considering it if signficant. I see Votto's eyes/bat lasting longer than Pillar's leg.

Don't see the Reds wanting Pillar since they have Billy Hamilton
