Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Stud leadoff hitter for Buffalo.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 The Blue Jays announced that they’ve designated left-hander Chad Girodo for assignment in order to create roster space for fellow southpaw J.P. Howell, whose one-year, $3MM deal has now been announced by the team. Girodo just turned 26 three days ago and is coming off a season in which he made his Major League debut with the Jays. In 10 1/3 big league innings, the former ninth-rounder allowed five runs (4.35 ERA) on 11 hits and two walks with five strikeouts. His work in Triple-A Buffalo resulted in a 3.79 ERA with 6.1 K/9, 3.3 BB/9 and a 57.2 percent ground-ball rate. Including both his Major League and Minor League work, Girodo yielded a .263/.289/.419 batting line to left-handed hitters and a much more alarming .347/.417/.584 slash to right-handed opponents.

rydermike Verified Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 So I guess we will have another DFA in a couple of days for Joe Smith's official signing? Or is he already officially signed?
rydermike Verified Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 If he's ever on the roster and we get ino a 18 inning game, we'll make him pitch like Goins. Or if we're winning big by 10+ runs, shift him after every out - all 10 positions in one game.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 That's kinda curious. Perhaps Salty has the inner track now.
rydermike Verified Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 That's kinda curious. Perhaps Salty has the inner track now. Well neither is on the 40-man, so I guess technically they are equal now. Someone has to be DFA'd for either to make the team now.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 There was a time a few months back that we were talking about 3/45 type deals for Saunders. Well neither is on the 40-man, so I guess technically they are equal now. Someone has to be DFA'd for either to make the team now. Gratersol fwiw, is on the 40 though I feel like Salty will have the inside track all the same. Jimenez can have yet another bad offensive season at AAA if he clears waivers.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 That's kinda curious. Perhaps Salty has the inner track now. I doubt that they ever saw Jimenez as a realistic backup. He was just a safety net in case we couldn't find anyone else.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I'd be surprised if Jiminez even gets claimed.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I'd be surprised if Jiminez even gets claimed. Finishing 13th on the BJMB hot list may be his career highlight...
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Maybe a team will claim him thinking he's Alex Rios circa 2006.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Finishing 13th on the BJMB hot list may be his career highlight... It's close but i think being the BJMB #4 prospect on the top of the site since 2013 slightly beats that.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 So Gibby says the plan is for Carrera and Upton to platoon in LF. Ugh https://theathletic.com/37923/2017/02/10/out-of-left-field-the-blue-jays-bank-on-an-awkward-platoon-unless-pompey-steps-up/

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Only hope is Pompey mashes Spring Training. Basically what the article said. Can't understand why the FO has neglected LF. Feels eerily similar to 2014 and 2nd base.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 There's still time to acquire Jay Bruce!

Out of budget - and Upton was a 3 WAR player if you combine 2015 to the first half of 2016. There is some upside there + you have Pompey as a wild card. I understand the decision vs. bringing in a guy like Pagan, who's likely a 2 WAR player in a best case scenario.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I don't even blame Gibbons for this. No reason to tender Zeke a contract, much less give him over a mil to produce replacement level performance when the OF market is cheap as dirt right now. I was always expecting Gibby to platoon those two (one bats left, the other bats right, numbers be damned). The front office could have avoided it though.

He's been dogshit vs RHP for 4 years. He can be a valuable player vs Lefties and defensively but he has no upside hitting vs right hand pitching for him.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 There's still time to acquire Jay Bruce! Gerardo Parra
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Gerardo Parra Pagan When is this Mother f***er going to sign..... He makes too much sense for the Jays not to put an offer in on him..... Having him and Upton platoon you can easily have a .750-.800 OPS out of Left field.

I think he does a pretty good job even though it's pretty much all speculation. Interesting to hear what he says about Pompey taking over LF full-time in May.

He's probably the 7th best hitter in the lineup. Bautista is the best fit and even Pearce would be a decent option if they want to have Jose hit 3rd.
