Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Prediction: TB now signs Coghlan to split time with Beckham at 2nd, and play some in the outfield. He probably puts up 2 WAR. I really want Coghlan to come here though. Plus in the outfield, can't hit lefties but we have Upton for that, and would provide valuable Travis protection at 2B.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I want to know how any of you nerds even know who this apparently s***** AAA backup catcher is. Since Pendleton brought him up a week or so ago.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Wilner literally knows nothing.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Read up on Shapiro's view on players options. Holland's not signing a mutual option, especially when he likely has a bunch of suitors. A mutual option basically the same as an opt out. If he has a great year he says, c'ya.
Governator Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 A mutual option basically the same as an opt out. If he has a great year he says, c'ya. An opt out is only half of a mutual option...
Ray Verified Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Would've been nice for $1 million.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 What a steal. Meh, Shawn Tolleson kind of sucks.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Meh, Shawn Tolleson kind of sucks. Watch him save 30-40 games with them if Colome gets traded or injured.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Meh, Shawn Tolleson kind of sucks. wat
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 wat He's literally only had one season above replacement level. He signed for just barely above league min, so that should probably say enough about how teams value him. Okay K rates, not much else going on.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 An opt out is only half of a mutual option... Yes. And it's the only half Holland cares about.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Meh, Shawn Tolleson kind of sucks. At 1 million, he'd be great?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Yes. And it's the only half Holland cares about. Or he can sign with one of many teams that will probably give him the player option he wants and have security in case he sucks. A mutual option is not security in case of failure because the team will decline it in that scenario.

Regardless of the number of years on the contract, he is unlike to get more than $10M guaranteed (even that is probably stretching it).
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 At 1 million, he'd be great? Again, he's basically a replacement level reliever. Cool if he replicates his 2015 season, which I would say the odds are against that, but more or less an inconsequential signing otherwise. I have no problem with paying a replacement level pitcher a hair over league min as the Rays did here, but nothing to write home about imo.

Okie Dokie... his HR/9 and BABIP was extremely bloated last season with injury... and his RA9/WPA and RE24 seems on point the 2 years prior, I think he's great value for 1 million. Anyhow he's a f***ing reliever and volatile... so I'll agree to disagree.

Your dumn he's had two straight seasons of above average pitching. Happy birthday dumny!

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 I traded for Shawn Tolleson before the 2016 season. I hope that POS finds his way out of baseball.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I'd give him a 1+1 (player option) I think I love the idea of Holland. Even if he comes back at 70% of his former greatness, he's the second best arm in the pen -- possibly even tied with Osuna.

Even if he comes back at 70% of his former greatness, he's the second best arm in the pen -- possibly even tied with Osuna. RotoWire News: Holland (elbow) was sitting at 88-91 mph with his fastball during a showcase Monday, FanGraphs' Eric Longenhagen reports. (11/7/2016) Not a good sign.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 :( EDIT: Shi with a rare break:
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Jays are close to signing Salty. White Navarro. Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi #BlueJays and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia nearing an agreement, per source:
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Ehhh, fine with him as a backup catcher, as long as he buzzes his head.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 The only good thing about Salty is that Gibbons wont DH him and bat him clean up. Other than that, he's no different than Navarro. Hope it's cheap.
