Barney and Upton as backup players is great. Combine that with positional flexibility from Pearce too.

Gonna disagree here. I think the 2015 team was the strongest team in the post season. BABIP bad luck killed us in the championship series, but in no way was it a team with too many holes to realistically win a championship

 

The team couldn't generate runs when it needed to, which is why the Royals bullpen took a crap on our historic offense...which is also the same thing that Cleveland did to both us and Boston this year.

 

Both the Royals in '15 and the Indians in '16 hit more homeruns than us in our respective series'. When your offense is more or less built on hitting HRs (but but but our team OBP...I don't care) and the opponent out homers you, you're probably going to lose.

Having both Carrera and Upton on the team means one of them is probably starting. They won't be starting the year with 5 outfielders in all likelyhood. That's not good.

Man, I'm interested to see what Atkins has in the bag left. The fact that Stroman following Sanchez from Instagram is the biggest Jays headline this month really puts into picture how boring the last month has been. I guess still not signing Bautista means that Atkins still has options he believes are better/can work out so I don't think we're really screwed yet..

 

I read the Keri article from a couple of weeks ago and I have to agree, if the offseason doesn't pickup for us I don't really like this 'in-between' position we're taking. We're not rebuilding/retooling, and we're not putting a team capable (on paper at least) of challenging for the AL East crown or a wild card spot.

If they re-sign Bautista, they'll probably just role with Zeke/Upton in LF. If they don't sign Bautista, then they better sign two OF's instead.

There's no way you can run Carrera out there every day against RHP when he has a career 78 wRC+ against them. You can sign literally any of the OFs available or Valbuena (Pearce to LF) and come out way ahead against RHP for like $4M to $8M.

 

I don't understand what they are going to do with him though? He's out of options.

Agreed, I don't want Carrera on the team at all, but if they sign Bautista it's probably going to be for $17-20m since his ego won't take less than the QO, so how much would they have left for another OF plus a back up catcher and whatever else they want to add? Trading Carrera would erase my fear of him starting, but if he's on the roster, then I'm pretty sure I know how the story is going to unfold. Gibby loves him.

 

If they sign someone like Moss, and Carrera is starting in right, then f***. If not Jose, then they better sign two OF's and trade Carrera, even if it's for a bit player.

Jays might be waiting until all the arb figures are fixed before proceeding. Stroman is the only real big arb case left, and Loup shouldn't be hard to sign. Maybe they'll finally do something after all that is settled.
