P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 I'd like this quite a bit as a depth signing. Only 27 years old. His 2014 season was pretty decent, and hasn't had much opportunity since due to injuries and such.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2016 Author Posted December 13, 2016 Nice. Very into this.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Solid depth move for sure, with a pinch of upside.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 From the looks of it, the Jays won't be able to trade for a top RF like Kole Calhoun or Jarrod Dyson. Fowler already signed with the Cards and Eaton was traded to the Nats. Curtis Granderson would be a nice fit, though I doubt he'll get moved. If the market for both Jose Bautista and EE are that bad, it wouldn't hurt to bring both back. If Bautista would take a 1/15 and EE maybe could only get 2/45, those are bargains. Plus the Jays are familiar with both players and know what to expect when both are healthy. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to add balance to this lineup and as well improve the OF defense though it seems like those options are dwindling. If they can't add an outfielder like that, I'd rather just have Jose Bautista back over someone like Jay Bruce. Jays likely would have a similar lineup as last season which is heavily right-handed. Lineup would still be good to get through the season and they would be able to bash against the bad teams. Then at the trade deadline, focus on adding a left-handed bat who could play an outfield spot. This would be the lineup, which is still pretty darn good: 2B Devon Travis 3B Josh Donaldson RF Jose Bautista 1B Edwin Encarnacion DH Kendrys Morales SS Troy Tulowitzki LF Steve Pearce C Russell Martin CF Kevin Pillar BN Melvin Upton Jr BN Justin Smoak BN backup catcher BN Darwin Barney

How many 1B/DH types do we need? Who are we the Orioles? I see that you're trying to squeeze talent in there and I appreciate that I just ate the defense that the team above would provide. We are in a really tough spot right now. We need to make a trade badly to go with a Moss-like signing but I don't see one right now.

I guess you could just hope we're leading after the 7th and spot in guys like Upton and Pompey for Bautista/Pearce in the OF.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 EE is getting more than $45 Million, and even then I'd rather just get the pick and get an LH outfielder. Bautista is a better fit because he can at least has the flexibilty to play the OF even if its not well.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 The front office is literally gonna wait this out as long as they can so that the prices drop on several guys who don't end up getting signed. Like a Pagan, Moss, Valbuena etc. They're gambling that some of these guys won't be signed and will need to find somewhere to go. We've signed Morales and Pearce, who collectively cost us ~$17 million. Assuming the payroll ends up being $160 million, that gives us just $23 million to add 2 OF, a couple bullpen pieces, and a backup catcher. I wouldn't expect any big moves or anything for a while. Late Dec/January is probably when things will pickup for us. Just a guess. I just hope we sign Bautista soon.

I still think with the price of RP, maybe we could net a MLB ready OF prospect (plus more) for Osuna. Maybe someone like a Brinson or Nimmo, then sign Moss. Sign Holland and give him the closer's job with Osuna gone (a little risky), sign Tolleson. Probably still a little short in relief, but we'd likely have ~7 million to play with. I doubt it'll happen, but I really think the reliever bubble won't last, and this is a chance to cash in.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 love the kid but his shoulder is probably hamburger meat Cleveland had turned House into a reliever full time. Considering the need for LH relief options it's not even necessarily a bad thing if he's consigned to that role with the Jays.

Not sure I reall care about reliever TJ. He doesn't exactly have power stuff or LOOGY stuff

I would almost expect him to be worth more WAR that say Moss or Bruce

Reminds of Epstein/Hoyer in Chicago always picking up former Red Sox farmhands.
