What would we need to acquire Dyson? His defense, speed and ability to make contact would be a welcome addition for a fraction of the cost of Fowler (who I'd definitely like to get). But no draft pick attached, and current and future financial flexibility. Could even bring JBau back with the savings and put him in LF. With Pillar and Dyson in the OF we'd probably survive defensively.

Thanks, that does seem more a like a spit-balled number, and they can always back-load some contracts to fit in the budget.

Oh that where? Still they had to budgeted 168 to 172 going into the offseason! I did the math and posted in one of the threads just can't remember which?

 

Ps also should add I saw that as there max, still they had to know they would need more then 160 also!

Random thing I found out today. Jason Garett was the QB when Shapiro was a 275lb offensive lineman for the Princeton football team.

Eaton obviously would cost a lot more to acquire than Fowler (2 or 3 top prospects vs one 1st round pick). But the dollar savings (7M-10M) would be enough to also add a good lefty reliever and a back up catcher.
