Even then, cost of living is only a very VERY small portion of what he makes. Most other more luxury things are roughly the same once the exchange rate is baked in, with some exceptions.

With Benoit signing in Philly, we can close the book on the Revere trade:

 

Washington gets -1.2 fWAR and -1.4 WPA from Revere before non-tendering him. Toronto gets 57 IP of 3.79/4.09/4.16 ERA/FIP/xFIP from Storen and Benoit (0.4 fWAR, 1.14 WPA, 1.0 RA-9 WAR)

 

The trade actually worked out pretty well lol. The relievers provided like a win above replacement, and probably close to 2 wins above Revere.

The only way they could sign EE now is if Steve Pearce plays significant time in an OF corner and Morales can play significant time at 1B. This combined with EE having to play primarily at 1B could actually be worse than just signing Fowler. The former are worse defenders at those positions and all three are more likely to get injured.

 

If Rogers is willing to pony up the cash and get both EE and Fowler (slim to none chance) that would be unreal.

 

A nice medium might be to take a chance on Jose playing mostly in the outfield. His market is garbage right now, 3/45 if his ego has been squashed.

He gambled last season by not signing an extension. It wouldnt suprise me if a 5/100 was on the table one year ago. By agreeing to a one year deal he is taking a massive risk of having an average or worse season. The free agent class in the next couple of years are better, likely leading to less money for him.

 

If I was him Id take 3/45 before Id take 1/17, maybe even 1/20.

It'll be just like Spring Training. They'll make one start each, maybe two, where they'll just take it easy and that way they will be ready for the regular season. Osuna could conceivably pitch more as a reliever but I would hope that the Mexico manager has strict directions as to the usage of young starts like Osuna.

I don't mind that platoon if 30-50% of Smoak starts go to Morales with others taking off days at DH.

The Mariners are open to trading Seth Smith. He's not the sexiest option, but projects for 1.2 WAR on a 7 million dollar salary. I don't mind him on the strong side of a platoon with Upton if we get a stronger option like Granderson in RF.
