If they sign Fowler, then I think going cheap with Carrera/Upton is a real possibility. Jays really need two OF's with Upton as the 4th of.

I kind of expect them too. It seems like the team always comes 1-2 pieces short of buying everything on the fans' offseason shopping list. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Shatkins throws Upton/Carrera/Pompey at LF and crosses their fingers.

I expect them to as well; with an eye on bolstering the roster after the season begins, if need be. A healthy rotation out of the gate may be able to buy us some time to identify where we need to focus in terms of player acquisition. I'm particularly thinking of how Travis performs, as well as Upton/Carrera.

I doubt they can land Fowler, especially with the news that the two sides are far apart on the $$

Curtis Granderson is a much more appealing option in my opinion anyways. Giving a long term deal and a pick to get Fowler would probably end up poorly for us.

Really just a backup catcher and an everyday OF required now for the lineup:

C - Martin

1B - Pearce

2B - Travis

3B - Donaldson

SS - Tulowitzki

CF - Pillar

LF - Upton/Carrera

RF -

DH - Morales

1B - Smoak

LF - Upton/Carrera

2B/SS/3B - Barney

C -

Would also be nice to acquire a better platoon partner for Upton (which would move Carrera to the 4th OF spot and be the end of Smoak on the roster), but really things are manageable with just an everyday OF and backup C added.

So you think Back up catcher is more a need then the pens needs?

Yes, but I was talking just about the lineup.

Can't knock them for it either, they gave him a healthy take it or leave it offer with a deadline that they were going to move on from.

I will miss EE and wish him nothing but the best but at this point I think we're better off targeting a lead off OF bat like Fowler.

Do teams lose credibility if they make an offer, stipulate a deadline.....watch it pass and then offer the same thing at a later date? Or is that the type of thing that nobody keeps track of.

If they told him the offer isn't around for any longer then I can't see how they would lose credibility. As long as you communicate your deadline its only the agent/player's fault.

Question about the qualifying offer. They say "Importantly, players will no longer be able to receive more than a single qualifying offer". Does that mean over the course of their entire career? If a player rejects a QO when he's 28, 10 years later he can't be offered one after playing for 3 different teams? Or does it mean back to back?

Better there than Boston.

Apparently Boston doesn't even want him. Unless his price keeps dropping.

By team maybe?

Who was it this year cespedes who had a mutual op out clause and the team was allowed to put or attach a Qo to him, that seemed crazy and allowed why, not sure?

I think GMs wouldn't do that, they'd simply switch focus after the deadline and let the agent come back to them to see if the offer is still available, so they instantly get the upper hand in negotiations, Seinfeld style.

It's regarding the new CBA rules. Bautista can't sign with Boston for a 2 year term and get a qualifying offer at the end of it anymore (because he got one from Toronto) which totally f***s over his market now. Team's don't want to give up a draft pick that they can't recoup later. The question is, are they referring to just his next contract or all future contracts, it doesn't seem clear to me.

That's why I said by team maybe? If it is in fact once in a players lifetime, does that not put the need to draft and produce more home talent as well, more so now then last year? If you want more picks ?

He's certainly a good plan B.

Assuming the acquisition cost for Grandy isn't much other than cash, he's turning into my favorite option.

Unfortunately, the Mets will want prospects for Granderson, if the Mets simply wanted to save cash, it'd make more sense to trade Bruce who isn't as good but is only earning $2m less.

Wonder who they asked for?
